Mangaluru, Jul 8: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel on Friday July 8 inaugurated two electric escalators at Mangaluru Central Railway Station here.

After inaugurating the escalators, Nalin Kumar Kateel speaking to media persons said, "The escalators have been installed at a cost of Rs 2 crore to facilitate passengers to move from the main entrance to platform numbers 2 and 3. Several demands of Phalgat division have been met, especially the Bajal-Padil railway underbridge. Work on Jeppu-Kudpadi underbridge has begun. Railway underpass near Padil is in the completion stage."

He further explained, "There are also demands for new trains. After the new Hassan-Bengaluru line gets commissioned, Mangaluru-Bengaluru train will pass through Shravanabelagola which will help reduce the distance. As there is demand for more trains in the coastal region, there is a track for more number of trains to operate between Mangaluru-Bengaluru via the Shiradi Ghat stretch between Kukke Subrahmanya road and Sakleshpur."

Regarding low patronage for Mangaluru-Madgaon Intercity Express to Mumbai he said, "The issue is before the railway ministry. The ministry is thinking of rescheduling or re-routing Kasargod-Byndoor stretch. There is demand to run the service between Kukke Subrahmanya and Byndoor to facilitate pilgrims."

On the long pending demand for a separate Mangaluru division, he said the issue has been brought to the notice of the railway minister Suresh Babu. "There are problems, one is that Mangaluru Central Railway functions under three dvisions - Konkan Railway (KRCL), South Western Railway (SWR) and Southern Railway. Southern Railway (Palghat) has just 13 km rail road in Karnataka. Technically, Mangaluru division cannot be formed under KRCL. There are two options - either creation of a new division under SWR or bringing Mangaluru region under SWR. Pressure is being put the government and efforts are on," he explained.

Regarding electrification of the railway track, divisional railway manager, Palakkad, Naresh Lalwani said, "Inspection has been conducted upto Cheruvathur. From Cheruvathur to Mangaluru, we have set next March as the target. It is a distance of about 80 km."

DySP Ganapati suicide: 'Arrest or face protest', warns MP Nalin

To a question on DySP Ganapati's suicide, Nalin Kateel said, "Ganapati was a sincere officer. In the entire state this is the fourth incident (of alleged harassment to police). This shows the extent to which political pressure is put on officers. Ever since the Congress government came to power, officers have been unable to perform their tasks. This political pressure led Ganapati to take this drastic step.

"The government should arrest the people named by Ganapati. Political pressure motivated suicide, hence arrest must be made. What is the government doing? The administration should not put pressure on the officers, instead officers should be appreciated. It is the responsibility of the ministers. Ganapati worked very sincerely in many parts of the district. People have appreciated his work. If the arrest is not done immediately or resignation of those mentioned carried out, BJP will protest by holding a Dakshina Kannada bandh. Moreover, till date, compensation has not been granted to the kin of inspector Mallikarjuna Bande who was killed," he said.

"In D K Ravi's case, the inquiry took a twist. The government is asleep and works irresponsibly. If there is no protection for a police officer how can the government protect common people? The matter will be taken up in the Lok Sabha by all the MPs of Karnataka and the issue will be raised by all our MLAs in the Assembly. Let the CM bring out the truth. If there is no arrest in the case within two days, BJP will go ahead with its protest," Kateel warned.

The way things look right now, it appears that the Kudupady underbridge is also going to go the same way as the Padil underbridge. The work has been done so shabbily without any long term plan. If this is the quality of infrastructure built by the Railway engineers, only God save us from any future major projects. One wonders whether it would have been better not to have the underpass after seeing the kind of work done. See both the underpasses to believe it! Our professionals do such a good job outside the country but what happens to them when they take up projects in their own country?

    Mr. Nalin,
Now DySp Ganapathi is not there to lathi charge the innocent people gathered in the Churches to pray, protesters demanding their rights for safe drinking water. So you may go ahead very confidently with the bundh call in favour this Police Officer. "Ganapati worked very sincerely in many parts of the district" just to silence the innocent minority. A man who got himself educated in Christian institution, rewarded the community with persecution.

    @ Christine, Mangalore,

A very few people are aware of late Dy. Sp. Ganapathi's actual role he has played with the orders of the RSS during BJP's rule at Karnataka those days.

The hatred towards a minority community and lathi charge the innocent people gathered in the Churches to pray has cost his conscience dearly now.

But it was too late for him to realize his "SIN".

Why was he depressed if he was honest and commit suicide??? And people now call him he was an "HONEST" Police Officer???

I just got to know this fact/truth just a day before thru social media. And now these "Thugs" are going to hold a morcha/street protest because he was an "Honest Police Officer!!! Joke of honesty...

Anyways ....May his soul Rest In Peace and God grant pardon to his soul for the "Acts" he had committed on someone else's orders!!!

We sympathize for his close family members to bear this irreparable loss.

In politics, abetting suicide is much graver offence than a friend masterminding a murder. Last 4 months our vote seeker of 2014, was mum about the sensational murder of a party member and now a police officer's suicide attracts his attention Hope readers get my point

I took the below from wiki...

    Reduction in poverty[edit]

The World Bank’s Global Monitoring Report for 2014-15 on the Millennium Development Goals says India has been the biggest contributor to poverty reduction between 2008 and 2011, with around 140 million or so lifted out of absolute poverty.[99] Since the early 1950s, Indian government initiated various schemes to help the poor attain self-sufficiency in food production. These have included ration cards and price controls over the supply of basic commodities, particularly food at controlled prices, available throughout the country. These efforts prevented famines, but did little to eliminate or reduce poverty in rural or urban areas between 1950 and 1980.[100]

One of the main reasons for record decline in Poverty is India's rapid economic growth rate since 1991.[13][14][101] Another reason proposed is India's launch of social welfare programs such as Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and Midday Meal Scheme in Government Schools.[citation needed] Klonner and Oldiges, in a 2012 study, conclude that MGNREGA helps reduce rural poverty gap (intensity of rural poverty), seasonal poverty, but not overall poverty.[102][103]

Now can you please elaborate what steps Nalin Kumar has taken regarding the Railway Division....or any other good work done to Mangalore....
