Mangaluru: 9-year-old girl puts head out of moving school bus, dies

Mangaluru, Jul 8: In a horrifying incident, a little girl died after her head hit an electric pole while she was returning home in the school bus here on Friday July 8. The incident took place at Sarbathkatte in Yeyyadi.

The deceased has been identified as Bhavani (9), daughter of Sudha, a resident of Jyotinagar.

Bhavani was a fourth standard student of Srinivas Lower Primary School at V T Road.

Police sources said that while returning home in the school bus, Bhavani put her head outside the window and within moments, she hit against an electric pole.

Bhavani died on the spot. Her body was shifted to a private hospital.

Mangaluru east traffic police arrived at the spot and registered a case.

    This is a sad and isolated incident where a young 9-year girl lost her life. We cannot blame the driver or the conductor as the girl must have accidentally put her head out and was hit by a pole. Now with this incident, new rules will come up for operators of buses and conductors. I feel sorry for that girl who lost her life and may her soul RIP and sympathies to the bereaved families and loved ones.

    Very Sad incident. May little Angle's soul RIP. Guide-lines to school children for first 3 days of of school is a must. other children would have warned this child or raised their voices to divert the attention of the driver/attender in the bus. Kindly do the needful as suggested by Mr. John - Mangalore/Kuwait to avoid this type of incidents.

    This is not mistake of innocent girl. if you see majority of roads are near house. There is no gap between house and road. Lack of footpath, line, and people should wake up. Should not vote any Politician until they make proper roads and footpath. for example Nanthoor junction and Hampankatta specially in india there are millions of top educated and experienced civil engg. then why they failed to make proper underpass or over bridge in nanthoor junction and Hampankatta

    I WONDER WHY IN INDIA ELECTRIC AND TELEPHONE PILLARS ERECTED NEAR THE ROAD SIDE. I TRAVELLED NEARLY ALL GULF/MIDDLE EAST COUNTRIES. THERE I NEVER FIND ANY PILLAR LIKE THIS. EVERYTHING IS CONCEALED UNDER THE EARTH BY CABLES. PILLARS AND WIRES EXPOSED TO OPEN AIR POSE THREAT TO HUMAN BEINGS, ANIMALS AND BIRDS AS WELL.KINDLY RE SIDE.

    In Recent years all major roads have been developed & Road widening also done. There should proper co-ordination between different departments like NHAI, MESCOM, MCC, WATER SUPPLY DRAINAGE BOARD. All obstructions to the road to be immediately should be removed immediately.

    Heartfelt condolences...
    And all we could blame is the heights of negligence in our system... it was never considered in planning to have good infrastructure, roads and other basic amenities.... how could we have poles right next to the road in less than a feet of distance and that too they are electric poles... what kind of engineers we have in govt and what kind of world we are living in... this is completely nonsense. there are hell lot of things to fix in this country if we have to avoid such incidents. Until then we would have such accidents now and then. And only way to be safe is to pray to God.

    Negligence, irresponsibility, lack of safety knowledge and training and its implication is the reason for tragedy.

    Many of our Indians do not have have human values. Just cry and mourning for couple days and forget the incidents. Same with our politicians. For their political benefits give news conferences and later disappear from implication of responsibilities.

    This happened in front of our house near Padua high sccool play ground. This road is not meant for heavy vehicles such as buses and trucks . Earlier there was an barrier restricting heavy vehicles on this road, but it was removed by the corporation. This was brought to the notice of the area corporator long ago. The traffic in this road is very heavy and I appeal to the corporation once again to install the barrier and restrict heavy vehicles in this road . The road is so narrow that two heavy hardly pass.

    The above post is a microcosm of the rot that has set in the region at large. The incident happened near your vicinity and there is only going to be a appeal to the corporation to look into the matter. So casual. There should be outrage, the people in the vicinity should collectively sue the corporation for gross negligence. But oh, wait, I forgot, we are Indians, we have better things to do. Just another day in our lives. Trasi incident was so long ago.

    In olden days Parents cared for their Children more than their own life. But now Mobile is more important than the Child. 3 years,4 years Children walk to School all by themselves,sometimes in middle of the road until someone yells at them to go on side of road.
    Look at the scene of Children walking on the highway near Rural Police Station. Nearly 25 to 30 large trucks park on the road side on foot path from flyover to Niddel-Maroli. Vehicles go about 100 KMPH without care of Children I have written and given to DC Ibrahim,ACP Uday Naik,Ex Police Commissioner, and recently I have Called present Police Commissioner Office plus I called DCP Sanjeeve Patil. Also I have requested Rural Police officials from time of Inspector Pramod and also many Police of the station. But still the trucks are there on the side of road as People walk on Road. Few deaths will wake up the authorities.
    Just recently a Child was sticking His hand out of window of school bus belongs to Red Camel. Child was sitting right behind the driver and He could not see this because He was on Mobile Phone. I tried to pass that Bus and yelled at that Child to put hand in. Many a times I have noticed that School bus drivers the Children on road instead of on footpaths. End result of this negligence is death of innocent Child. Then everyone joins the grief to wish that Dead Child To Rest In Peace.

    after all kids are kids. whom to blame here.it is impossible for a driver/conductor to look at into 50 children in a bus. children do not listen to anyone.
    my sujjestion is RTO should make compulsory all the school buses are to be fitted with window net,so that this type of incident will not recur in future.a few days back we were commenting to ban omni!!after trasi accident. now shall we ban school buses?

    Cant blame driver or conductor but was there a caretaker in the bus? Children are children you cant blame them either. That is their age to do mischieves.In the absence of a caretaker, driver was supposed to have an eye on this children or at least lock the glasses of the bus. Very sad to hear about the death of little angel when the memory of the death of eight children is still fresh. May lord God grant her eternal peace.

    Sad and tragic..,reminded me of one of my classmates while I was in 4TH STD ,Bharati who died in similar way while coming back from Mlore to Mulky .That was almost 30 years back .But road safety awareness is still at the same level among drivers and commuters...
