Madikeri: Did DySP Ganapati suffer from depression?

Daijiworld Media Network - Madikeri (SP)

Madikeri, Jul 9: Inspector general of police (southern range), B K Singh, said that deputy superintendent of police, M K Ganapati, was suffering from mental depression since the last two months, and that this was the root cause behind his suicide.

Speaking to reporters here on Friday, he revealed that a receipt for having consulted a neurologist of AJ Hospital, Mangaluru was found in the lodge room where Ganapati stayed. He said that Ganapati, who discharged duties at Mangaluru on Wednesday, had left home on Thursday duly wearing his uniform. Later, he had hired a room at Madikeri and given interview to a local television channel.

Virajpet MLA, K G Bopaiah, wanted to know as to why was the officer deployed in the office of the inspector general at Mangaluru if he was suffering from depression. He accused a minister and two senior officers of police department of committing an officer from Kodagu. Madikeri MLA, M P Appachu Ranjan, said that the issue will be raised in the assembly session on Monday and action would be insisted against the guilty.

Ganapati's wife, Pavana, speaking to reporters here on Friday, said that her husband had discussed the issue of pressure from higher officers many a time and that he had ended his life because of this pressure. She also claimed that Ganapati's statements given to a television channel were true. About the claim of Ganapati's younger brother, M K Thammaiah, that the DySP was suffering from depression, she said she is not aware of any such ailment, adding that her husband had not been treated for depression anywhere. She also added that she does not know why family members are making these claims.

Bengaluru: DySP Ganapati's death gives rise to political mudslinging

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jul 9: Funeral of deputy superintendent of police (DySP), Madapanda K Ganapati, who committed suicide in a lodge at Madikeri on the evening of Thursday July 7 was held at the farm house of the family at Rangasamudra, native place of Ganapati, near Kushalnagar on Friday July 8 afternoon. Before that, the body was handed over to his family members after postmortem at the district government hospital at Madikeri.

During the period the postmortem was on, BJP activists held protest in front of the hospital, demanding resignation of minister, K J George. There was delay in the mortal remains reaching the officer's native place as villagers held roadblock demanding resignations of senior police officers and minister, George. Police intervened and pacified the agitators.

At Bengaluru, Shobha Karandaje and R Ashok led a protest at Mysore Bank Circle seeking entrustment of the case to Central Bureau of Investigation and resignation of K J George. As the police officer had given interview to tv channel before ending his life, in which he had accused his seniors and K J George of harassment, the government was under compulsion to act immediately. Therefore, investigation by criminal investigation department was ordered by Thursday midnight. When the protestors tried to lay siege to the office of the director general of police, they were arrested and released later.

Even as opposition parties have launched statewide protests demanding the scalp of minister, K J George, the state government has been preparing to counter the attack. BJP state president, Yeddyurappa, leader of the opposition in the assembly, ,Jagadish Shettar, and JDS state president, H D Kumaraswamy, have demanded for the resignation of K J George.

The issue came up for discussion at the cabinet meeting. It is said that the chief minister advised party activists to jointly act by raking up the issue of RSS link to DySP, Kallappa Handibag's suicide. He said that resigning from the post just because someone has asked for it is not justified. Siddaramaiah is also understood to have advised the concerned to find out reasons for repeated incidents concerning suicides of police officers and resignation of DySP Anupama Shenoy. When home minister, Dr G Parameshwar, and director general of police, Omprakash, met the chief minister in the morning and tried to explain suicide by Ganapati as a personal matter, the chief minister asked them to look deeper into the cause of this suicide as he felt that there was something which does not meet the eye.

In the meanwhile, it is gathered that no mention has been made in the first information report registered in the police station about the role of Bengaluru Development Projects minister, K J George, intelligence bureau chief, A M Prasad, and Lokayukta inspector general of police, Pranav Mohanty, although Ganapati had mentioned these names in his suicide note and also television interview before his death. This has given rise to an impression among the people that the government is trying to shield the guilty.

    Srimad-Bhagavatam 12.2.1 says about Kaliyuga

Increasingly degraded generations, conceived accidentally in lust and growing up wild, swarm all over the world. States falls into the hands of unprincipled rogues, criminals and terrorists, who use their power to exploit the people. Entire populations are enslaved and put to death. The world teems with fanatics, extremists and spiritual artists, who win huge followings among a people completely dazed by hedonism, as well as by cultural and moral relativism. "Religion, truthfulness, cleanliness, tolerance, mercy, physical strength and memory diminish with each passing day.

I agree . If we ourselves want to support guilty and corrupt system cannot do anything about it and no cure and guilty can escape easily as he will feel theres support for him . We must support whats right only . We are not discussing if Ganathy was a good or bad man but what we are discussing about corrupt political system and way guilty is protected normally in these type of situations. BJP/Congress does not come into picture here.

See the laughable reaction from IG of police that M K Ganapathi was suffering from mental depression since the last two months and this was the root cause behind his suicide. This is a knee-jerk reaction to protect the accused. IG is cleverly silent on reasons for mental depression. The open interview given by the deceased to local channel clearly states the whole reasons together with name of people responsible for his death. This statement shall be accepted as a "dying declaration" under Indian Evidence Act to arrest the criminals, whoever he be. Clarification as given by IGP and extending reasons to depression and family issues can wait and shall form part of inquiry. Nowhere the culprits had the privilege to get exonerated in similar incidents elsewhere. Special treatment and application of law is provided since the culprits enjoys MF status? Intents of the Government to save the criminals are getting more evident. Corruption and nepotism prevalent in Karnataka is choking those opposing it. Criminals should be eradicated from politics, else we need to pay heavy price for embracing democracy.......!

    @rajesh Udupi,
When he is responsible to shed tears for many by misusing the authority, now if we lose such a worst person need not be so sympathetic. Psychiatry must help good people but not the cruel and corrupt. Even if it was not HIS KARMA of SUICIDE, as his deeds were not for the good of many let us consider it as a result of KARMA and pray that the Only one God that we all believe and differentiate and fight among ourselves may show his mercy and forgive him. Today it is easy to us to forgive who did not meet the worst consequences from his authority. Please ask the people who suffered from his arrogant and cruelty. I really cried during those church attacks. Please those who support him understand urself the facts u support. It is easy to us to blame without knowing facts or by politically influenced but one or the other day THE TRUTH WILL SURVIVE or TRIUMPH. REMEMBER ONE GOD THAT WE BELIEVE HE WILL BE FOR ALL RELIGIONS SO WE DO NOT HAVE RIGHT TO GO AGAINST ANYBODY'S FAITH.

With all the happenings faced by this DySP it is obvious he was undergoing deep mental stress as he had misused his powers and given mental torture to the minority religious even while they were praying inside their limitations. The final solution would have been for him to be counselled by a proper counsellor as there is always a solution for every problem. BUT now why the parties are politicizing the issue when he is no more. Instead they all can pray for his soul and do some good deeds for his eternal peace

The officer has been under tremendous pressure from the powerful people reports say. yes, he must have shown guts to overcome the depression. but how will we normal people understand the mental status of a man under severe depression? Reports are coming that from the day he entered new office, he was not even smiling at anyone saying that someone is trapping him and he is worried about the trauma his family is undergoing. it is tragic, but then we cannot expect the wicked souls to have a heart.
