Bengaluru, Jul 9: Perturbed by the suicides of policemen in the State, including the latest by Deputy Superintendent of Police Ganapathy, Karnataka’s Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara has appealed to all police personnel not to resort to the extreme action of committing suicide and instead approach him first with their grievances.

"Suicide is not and cannot be a solution to the stress and pressures faced by policemen. I will try my best to find a solution," promised Dr Parameshwara.

The Home Minister, who held prolonged discussions with the Chief Minister Siddaramaiah following the tragic death of DySPGanapathy and the decision by the State Government to order a CID probe into the entire incident, including allegations levelled by the deceased police officer, said: "Police officers committing suicide is a disturbing trend. This should end."

"Please come to me directly and share your problems. Do not lose hope, keep your morale high. I will respond to your woes," he assured.

Dr Parameshwara rejected the demand for resignation of former Home Minister KJ George and action against two police officers named by Ganapathy in his statement before his death.

"There is no other material other than Ganapathy's statement to substantiate the allegations against George and two officers. CID is probing to find the causes for Ganapathy's death. The probe will shed light on whether Ganapathy was under stress due to his work related issues, or family problems, whether he was harassed in the department.

Dr Parameshwara said the State Government would take suitable action against those involved after the probe.
