Emirates Barkurians celebrate anniversary, St Peter's feast

Sharjah, Jul 9: A group of Barkurians namely the Emirates Barkurians, residing in the United Arab Emirates celebrated their 4th anniversary and patron St Peter’s feast on July 1 at the residence of Vera and Tyronne Crow in the city.













Started four years ago in the presence of Dr Henry D’Souza, bishop of Bellari and Herbert Joseph Menezes as the founder president, Emirates Barkurians successfully managed to get together most of the Barkurians staying in the UAE for important occasions like patron’s reast, nativity and annual get-togethers every year.

St Peter being the patron of their parish, back home in Barkur, is most venerated and sought after among the saints for Barkurians spread all over the world. Emirates Barkurians, being no different started this group’s first event as patron’s feast four years ago. Continuing that tradition, this year too the group gathered to celebrate their favorite patron’s feast.

The day stared with a warm welcome from the president and compere of the day, Veera Crow, followed by the word of prayer. Natasha Crow and Regi Fernandes, at the helm of affairs conducted fun filled games and activities. Loads of snacks and beverages kept the audience busy. Participants were divided into two teams A and B for the games and team A emerged as the overall champions. All the participants actively participated in all the games with nonstop humor, reminiscent of true Barkurian spirit.

A sumptuous Mangalurean style lunch was whole-heartedly sponsored by the Crows.

Soon after lunch, as decided earlier, the new core committee was unanimously elected and selected for the years 2016 – 2018.

Towards the end the group decided to meet on September 9 to celebrate Monthi Fest at Abu Dhabi and Terance Lewis and Walter D'Almeida volunteered to make the arrangements for the same. About 30 30 members with their family from the different Emirates and friends hailing from Oman, returned to their homes with loads of memories to cherish.
