It is not enough if this man announces such grandiose plans. We have seen his dismal performance as the Forest Minister. Let him prove his worth by having 25 lakhs samplings planted and prove that his deeds match with his words. Again, it is not enough if the saplings are planted and left to fend for themselves. They need to be well taken care of. Here, I must add that is the duty of all of us to take care of the saplings planted. We cannot expect the government to do everything. As citizens, we should also play our role. Whenever we see any infirm plant, we must at least see that it gets some support. We need the shade of the trees to park our vehicles but how much do we care for these plants when they need our help?

First make it compulsory for each and every builder in the district to plant and nurture 5,000 -10,000 trees per year and produce the proof if their licenses to be renewed. So many trees were cut by the builders from earlier lush green compounds to build high rise buildings and in the process adding heat to the environment. They along with PWD and sewage & water supply department are the worst enemies of trees and catalysts for degradation of environment.
As rightly in the article corporate companies’ even traders shall be involved in this noble task giving a annual target for each business organization.
Last but not least we common citizens have our role and each household should plant and nurture at least 5 plants each year to bring green cover to our locality. We have still two months of rain and let us not lose the opportunity.
Let us not forget to plant good variety of samplings such as Mango, Nerale Hannu/ Jamun(Indian Black Berry),Birinda/Kokum,( Garcinia indica), NelliKai/Amla (Indian Gooseberry), Neem, Teak, Bete etc which will help to conserve these varieties. Most of which are available in Forest department Nursery at Padil.
Only slogans and empty talk will not help, let us take action to conserve our environment. .. I have done my part in one area of Mangalore and will continue doing it each year ……

1st let the man who is lazily standing obese man, lethargically waving the flag show us the evidence of 25 lacs saplings stock with the forest dept after that these type of nataks will be appreciated.
each year in paper forest dept says free saplings available for planting, when we go there not even 1 sapling is available there.
25lacs saplings in this dreams also not possible.

IHope this not another photo op ,it's better to educate and encourage the general public to plant on their own initiative than this natak schemes, All the balconies ,terraces too can be used for plants, what about the green spaces like parks ,they seem to be dwindling in this new concrete jungles.

Planting crores/lakhs of plants is not the criterion. Planted seedlings be maintained by watering etc. till 5 years. Otherwise it will become Onamahotsava instead of Vanamahostava.!

First they hacked down multitudes of the naturally growing endemic to the region hardy trees and destroyed pristine, virgin forests in most parts of DK and now, they will plant some useless trees, which may not be suitable to this region just for the heck of it wasting money of the taxpayers!!

    Penny wise pound foolish!!
