Mangalore: Fishing Boat Capsizes at Estuary - 5 Fishermen Rescued

Mangalore, Nov 17: A fishing boat capsized at the estuary near Mulihitlu on Saturday, November 17 early morning.

The name of the ill-fated boat is ‘Bhagyajyoti,’ owned by Shivananda Karkera and others. The total loss as of now has been estimated at Rs 4 lac. A total of 5 fishermen who were in the said boat were rescued by fellow fishermen who were in the other boat.

Few months ago, a boat had capsized in the same place. A part of the ‘Bhagyajyothi’ boat collided with that boat while it was coming back to the shore. This resulted in the capsize, said that fishermen who were on the boat at the time of the tragedy.

    Lucky Escape! The coast guard should have installed navigational buoy/lights on the spot where the boat was capsized earlier to warn other boats to stay away. This can only save them as these boats are not equipped with radors.
