Professional, family problems led Ganapati to suicide, says CID

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (RJP)

Bengaluru, Jul 11: As per the preliminary report made known to chief minister Siddaramaiah and home minister Dr G Parameshwar on Sunday July 10 by Criminal Investigation Department (CID), it is revealed that DySP M K Ganapati committed suicide due to both professional as well as family problems.

CID ADGP C H Pratap Reddy was in Chikkamagaluru and Mangaluru for four days where DySP Kallappa Handibag and DySP M K Ganapati worked respectively. Both these officers of DySP rank committed suicide last week. C H Pratap Reddy is in charge of investigations of these cases. Pratap Reddy met CID chief Kishore Chandra and submitted the preliminary report on Sunday, sources said.

CID also stated that Kallappa Handibag committed suicide as he could not cope with humiliation of facing the charges of kidnapping and receiving ransom for releasing a man.

The meeting between IGP Kishore Chandra and Pratap Reddy lasted for more than two hours. Reddy explained that as it is only a preliminary report, he could not come to a final conclusion.

The findings have been brought to the notice of the chief minister and the home minister. The report has not been submitted in written form to the government yet. But as the Assembly session is going on and if the opposition demands for explanation on the issues of the twin suicides, a written report of around 20 pages will be submitted in the Assembly on Monday July 11, it is speculated.

M K Ganapati's family complains against K J George, police refuse to file FIR

Meanwhile in Kushalnagar, the hometown of deceased DySP M K Ganapati, his wife Pavana and elder son Nehal lodged separate police complaints against senior police officers A M Prasad and Pranab Mohanty and Bengaluru urban development minister K J George. But the police did not register the FIR, stating that they will send the details to the CID which is investigating the case.

Pavana submitted a complaint of 6 pages while her son’s police complaint was of 2 pages. Both of them asked the police to register the complaints against the two police officers and the minister who were named by Ganapati before he took the drastic step of ending his life. He had alleged harassment by the trio in a television interview.

Both the complainants demanded acknowledgements from the Kushalnagar police which was given to them. But the police refused to register the complaint. The group of people including Machaiah, the brother of M K Ganapati, protested against the stance of police personnel. The members of BJP, JD(S) and some other organisations also joined them and they protested till 11 pm, it is gathered.

Ballistics test confirms bullets fired from DySP's service revolver

Madikeri/Mangaluru, Jul 11 (DHNS): Ballistics examination has confirmed that DySP M K Ganapati had fired twice from his service revolver at the bed in the hotel room in Madikeri on Thursday before committing suicide. Ballistics experts from the Forensic Sciences Laboratory (FSL) in Bengaluru on Sunday visited the room number 315 of Vinayaka lodge in Madikeri where Ganapati had committed suicide.

They found that the bullets were fired from Ganapati’s service revolver. There were eight bullets in the revolver and two were found on the bed, sources said.

FSL Assistant Director Ravindranath and ballistics experts Nagabhushan and Prakash visited the lodge at 10.30 am and carried out an examination.

The team collected details on the distance from which the bullets were fired. They also spoke to the staff of the lodge.

Revolver prohibited

According to the police department rules, a DySP working in the office of IGP is not allowed to use the revolver. However, citing threat to his life, Ganapati had taken permission to possess a revolver, the sources said.

On the other hand, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) teams continued their investigation into Ganapati’s suicide on Sunday.

They collected the video footage of the room being broken open, certain photographs and Ganapati’s clothes, wallet and mobile phone.

They also obtained the footage of the interview Ganapati had given to a local television channel before ending his life.

However, they could not get the medical certificates and photograph of history-sheeter Prashanth, which Ganapati had exhibited during the interview, the sources said. A CID team is interrogating the lodge staff.

The hotel staff have been directed not to go on leave and appear before the investigating team whenever summoned.

Meanwhile, BJP state general secretary and MLA C T Ravi on Sunday urged the authorities to file a case against Bengaluru Development Minister K J George, Lokayukta IGP Pronab Mohanty and ADGP (Intelligence) Ashit Mohan Prasad who were named by Ganapati in his interview to the television channel.

CID questions psychiatrist

The CID sleuths recorded the statement of Mangaluru-based psychiatrist Dr P K Kiran Kumar who was treating Ganapati.

The CID team lead by ADGP C H Prathap Reddy and IGP Hemanth Nimbalkar arrived in Mangaluru on Saturday also conducted a mahazar of Ganapati’s cabin at the IGP (Western range) office.

Dr Kumar said the CID officials questioned him on the treatment Ganapati was undergoing. “Ganapati had come to me for treatment of headache and memory loss. He was responding and was always calm. He had not spoken to me on any pressure from politicians or harassment from senior officers.

“The last time he visited me was on June 23 and was confident of getting cured. No politicians or police officers, other than the CID sleuths, has contacted me with regard to the suicide case,” he added.

Point is (1.) Why Dysp Ganapati gave an interview to the local news channel against those 3 people after getting promotion as DYSP & not when suspended or not getting postings. Was he forced to do that?
(2.) If 2 bullets were shot from dysp Ganapati's revolver on his bed, to whom were they shot. Was there anyone else in his room?
(3.) Auto driver said he dropped back dysp Ganapati to his lodge at 1.30 pm.
(4.) Dysp Ganapati's wife Pavana said when she called her husband at 1.45pm, he answered 'hello' then no answer. Was there anyone else to hang him to death?
(5.) Dysp Ganapati's brother said the room of the lodge was not safe. The window had no grills. A person can easily come inside. He also said his brother was not of a person to commit suicide.

So let us not politicize the issues. Let the investigating agencies do their job.

Btw, after likening Kulshekar church scene to some terrorists hiding in temple/mosque (‘What to do if terrorists get cover inside a temple or mosque like the way people who attacked police took cover in Kulshekhar church?’ – your comments on July 10th.) reader can very well decipher motive behind your change of heart. Something is very fishy. As commented earlier, now it looks like a drama to divert attention from Baliga murder case. Ganpathi had a revolver with bullets. He shot two rounds of bullets. He hanged himself. If at all his intention was suicide, why did not he killed himself by his gun instead of firing in air ? Was he forced to hang himself by someone by firing in air ? Was he fooled/forced to give TV
interview and then forced to suicide by his own people to appear it like a suicide ? Police has to go deep in to this to know what exactly happened. Hotel staff should be quizzed maximum to know who were with Ganapati during his last hours and who accompanied him before giving TV interview. Feeling sorry for his two minor sons and his widow.

Everybody living in India knows justice cannot be fair when some politicians or his dear ones is involved or named. This particular case started to derail from the beginning itself as in the case of Baliga or DySP Kallappa! No political parties are worried about anybody's death or of their families! After a month everything will be back to normal and business as usual! Case will be dragged in the courts for years! In the meantime Govts will come and Govts will go! New scandals will be the hot news, thats all but nothing will change for sure!

Nice to know that you have good respect for Christian religious fraternity.
But let me make a few things clear. Nobody is celebrating the officer’s death. We are fully aware that we are all mortal souls and one day we have to go.
I would only like to indicate that whatever we do we have to pay for it. It is a fact of life. It applies to the whole of human race.
My sympathies are with his wife and sons.
And what duty are you talking about Shanker Brother. An officer’s dignity lies in his doing his duty diligently within the realms of law and ensuring there is peace.
But barging into the church and beating up Christians indulged in prayer is not duty. It is an unlawful act.
Are you implying that the Christians gathered in the K church were doing something illegal. No!! Please change your mindset. They were praying peacefully.

This has nothing to do with the church attacks where he definitely played a role due to political patronage. One must remember that fate catches up with you sooner or later and this is what exactly happened. When he realized that the four walls were closing around him he took the only way out. 8 slugs in a revolver? Must be world's first such revolver. And btw, Dr.Kamath must have been disappointed to learn that it was a psychiatrist and not a neurologist who was treating the late DySP

Will a patient consult a psychiatrist for headache, backache, influenza or memory loss?
He should have consulted an physician and not a psychiatrist.
Perhaps Dr. Kumar himself needs to be treated.

Mostly it is a suicide case and the reason for suicide will be only known when the CID investigation is completed.

Torture from George ? If DySP was bold enough to beat & torture innocent people indulged in prayers in churches, couldn't he "take care" of a "mallu minister?"

    Rahul,

I am not denying that HM George has harassed the late DYSP. He (Geoge) must have only questioned him on what basis did he enter the Christian places of worship beating up Nuns and other Christians indulged in prayer.

Are you saying that what the late DYSP did is right?? His own guilt has cost him his life today.

But forget it and let it be. This is beyond your understanding.

    Austin, Geoffrey and Rita,
How can you all stoop to such a low level celebrating an officer's death by tagging it as a curse of doing his duty at Kulshekhar Church?

When we hear Catholics or Christians, what flashes first is the selfless services of nuns and contributions to education and health sector by Christians and definitely not the crusades happened centuries ago.

Do not jeopardize the respects your clansmen have earned.
