Don't think TV creates stereotypical image of actors: Deepika Singh

New Delhi, July 11 (IANS): Actress Deepika Singh, who has been portraying Sandhya Rathi for almost five years now in the popular TV show “Diya Aur Baati Hum”, is not scared of getting stereotyped. She says getting known by her character's name is an “achievement” for her.

“I don't think TV stereotypes you. If you are a talented actor and entertaining your audience for such a long time, then how can it create a stereotypical image,” Deepika told IANS.

“In 'Diya Aur Baati Hum', from a housewife to becoming an IPS officer -- Sandhya has inspired so many women of today's generation. Also, my fans know me as Sandhya. So it's an achievement for me that my role is so famous.

“There are so many good actors working in TV industry since so many years... So I don't think it actually creates a stereotypical image in audiences' mind. I am getting the same response and love from my fans since the last five years which keeps me motivated to play this character,” she added.

“Diya Aur Baati Hum” will complete five years in August end.

Deepika says she will remain a part of “Diya Aur Baati Hum” until the Star Plus show goes off air.

“For me, commitment is the most important thing. I want to grow as an actor, try new things, but I don't want to leave this show and go. Once this show gets over, I will definitely try new and different roles,” Deepika said.

“I will never ever leave this show till the time the show is on air. The audience loves to see me daily and that encourages me to play Sandhya's role,” she added.

The show also stars Anas Rashid, Neelu Vaghela and Ashok Lokhande among others.
