Mangaluru, Jul 12: The Mangaluru unit of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Tuesday July 12 staged protest alleging the involvement of the Congress-led state government in the suicide of DySP M K Ganapati and demanding the resignation of minister K J George who was among the three persons named by the DySP in a television interview before his death.

The ABVP led a rally from Dr Ambedkar circle to the DC's office, in front of which the protest was staged.

Addressing the protest, Akshay of University College said, "K J George should resign from his post. The chief minister has failed to seek his resignation. Though three names were mentioned by DySP Ganapati before his death, the FIR has still not been filed, despite the fact that Ganapati's wife and son gave a complaint. CM Siddaramaiah is protecting his minister. The government is misleading the people, and by claiming Ganapati was depressed, it is trying to close the case.

"After the Congress government came to power, senior officers like Anupama Shenoy, D K Ravi and others suffererd due to harassment and political interference in the police department. The government should take this issue seriously and provide justice to the family of Ganapati," he added.

City unit leader of ABVP Keerthan said, "When there is no protection for senior officers, how can the government protect the common people? The CM should stop protecting his minister and instead demand his resignation.

"Though M K Ganapati came forward and explained everything in front of the media, no action has been initiated. Though the case has been given to the CID, the investigation is not progressing at the expected pace," he said.

Mohit said, "The state government is trying to twist the case. Justice should be done to Ganapati's family. This is not the first such incident."

The protestors shouted slogans against the government demanding resignation of minister George.

ABVP city unit secretary Hitesh Bekal, co-convener Chetan Padil and others were present.
