Mangaluru: Protest over DySP's suicide: BJP members barge into DC's office

Mangaluru, Jul 12: Members and activists of the district BJP on Tuesday July 12 barged into premises of deputy commissioner's office while protesting against the state government over the recent suicide of DySP M K Ganapati.

The BJP staged a protest in front of the DC's office. After the first few speeches, the protestors gatecrashed into the DC's office.

The protestors, demanding the resignation of minister K J George, and officers A M Prasad and Pranab Mohanty, shouted slogans and created a chaos. They also shouted slogans against the DC and demanded that he come out of the office to accept their memorandum.

The police also arrived to control the situation.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, district BJP president Sanjeeva Matandoor, former MLA Rukmaya Poojary, Satyajit Suratkal and many other BJP leaders were part of the protest.

Finally, additional DC Kumar met the protestors and accepted the memorandum from Sanjeeva Matandoor.

There was a verbal clash between the ADC and the protestors, as a seemingly miffed Nalin Kateel pointed out that they had been made to wait for over an hour to submit the memorandum, which should have otherwise taken only two minutes. "If the DC was busy with court meetings, someone else could have come to meet us. This should not repeat in future," he warned.

The protest was called off after the submission of the memorandum.

Earlier, addressing the protest, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said, "People voted for Siddaramaiah's government hoping that he would give is 'Rama Rajya', but the government has turned the state into 'Ravana Rajya'. It has become a government of murderers. D K Ravi committed suicide, but the case was twisted, and the same is happening with suicide cases of DySPs Kallappa and Ganapati. Even when sub-inspector Mallikarjun Bande was killed, the government was silent. The CM is responsible for DySP Ganapati's suicide, as he's keeping such people of bad conduct in the cabinet.

"During the three years when K J George was home minister, it was his son and Siddaramaiah's son who were running the show. But the CM did not question or stop them. The government has tied the hands of the police and is making them do as it wants by interfering in their work. Nobody is allowed to work freely. Even the women officers are not spared from harassment.

"Ganapati was a sincere officer who also tried to curb communal violence when he was officer. He mentioned three names before ending his life. The district BJP hence demands George's resignation. FIR must be filed and arrests should be made. If the CM has any sense of responsibility and sincerity, let him sack the minister," Nalin said.

"After the news of Ganapati's suicide broke, the home minister issued a statement in just 10 minutes. How could he come to any conclusion so soon? If the CM cannot seek George's resignation, he should himself resign.

"We will not give up until George resigns or till FIR is registered. We will continue our protests till the government collapses in the state," he declared.

District BJP president Sanjeeva Matandoor said, "Sincere officers are committing suicide under Siddaramaiah's government. People gave mandate to the Congress government for good administration, but it has completely failed. During Siddaramaiah's tenure, 1,300 farmers have committed suicide and the government, either through influence or interference, is not allowing officers to perform their duty. Officers are facing threats from Congress leaders and have to live in fear.

"We demand the sacking of minister K J George and filing of FIR, if not, BJP will intensify the protest. We are also ready to hold district-wide bandh if justice is not done," he warned.

This is not the issue of who coming to power after 3 years. To me Congress and BJP are 2 sides of the same coin. If one is the devil another is the dead sea.

Looks like we are very naive( innocent) in thinking one is better than the other. As long as we support this system that produces Ek Se Badker Ek ( Oriyed ori asal) nothing will change.

We may believe it will change. No it wont. Make the police force decentalized to district level. Pay should be from that district tax. No transfers outside the district. There will not be any future suicides due to Yeddi or Siddu

good to see the power of opposition protesting against the govt irrespective of which govt or which opposition.
with sympathies to the family of DySP and himself, i also feel sorry for Vinayaka baliga who was a BJP party worker and a RTI activist. he was brutally murdered by Naresh shenoy and his team. agree nari maaari is arrested and even the people who murdered too are arrested. but when will the main kingpins of the murder? when will they be arrested? until then justice wont be made for Baliga's murder.
sad to say that there was no such protest by MP for this at all.

Wrong people are protesting for right cause. This sounds dangerous.BJP if you want to protest then do it generously.Don't do selective protests. It will not favor you. They are not at all worried about their sanghi HJV leader's suicide.
There should be strict policy for recruiting in police service. All sangh police should be barred. Its high time DC should look into this matter.

Yesterday a 11 year old girl committed suicide, no protests or a RIP to her soul by Bhakts!

DySP Kallappa committed suicide.. No Protests!

Vinayak Baliga, Harish Bantwal killed by Sanghees... No Protests!

Attacks on college students, girls, women happened, church attacks took place, attacks on minorities happened during BJP regime... No Ministers resignation were demanded!

Ruling party MLA, ministers themselves found beating, abusing, molesting women, watching porn clips in Parliament... No resignation asked!

Serial murders, thefts, corruption, rapes (including much publicized Sowjanya rape in Belthangady) happened... No protest organized (protests organized after BJP exited from power and Congress came into governance, infact when 2014 Lok sabha elections nearing!)

Shame on you guys... do politics but review yourselves before staging such dramas.

Congress cannot rebut with Baliga murder now?

BJP : are you not making this a farcical drama to fool public for political gains?

We need to grow wise with this cat and mouse game ( depending on who in the power and those in the opposition) - I do not think any one is interested in exposing a crime or condemn a murder.

The MP should see to the road that leads to railway station from the town hall side, see to it that the road is repaired and motorists want find any problem since it comes under the railways. The railways is under the central Government. Our MP is of the same party as the central Government so he should not waste time going for protests and not doing any work for the district. BJP is doing a democratic act.Protesting on the issues anybody is not undemocratic.Gate crashing is not necessarily an undemocratic act. They never chosen to beat police personal on duty or pulled their service revolver, lathi etc., with ulterior motives which we have seen the church attack protest of 2008 in Mangalore. Those who are criticising protest act here have forgotten the facts of 2008.Issue of criticism is not factual but purely communal.

You got that right Neeth. Protection and inclusion of minorities in governance is a part of democratic process. The idea is that the minorities will never get a chance in governance by election, especially when the voting process is scandalized by communal ideals such as "Rath Yathra" "Ghar Vapsi" etc. No one should feel hostile in their own country.

Take an example of what is going on in Middle East (Syria) and what happened in Nazi Germany. People who live in India and Western countries must thank for their luck for now. Advani's idea is being borrowed by Trump which is unfortunate.
