Puttur, Jul 16: Unidentified thieves struck it rich at two places in Nelyady downtown in the early hours of Friday July 15. They entered a bakery-cum-juice centre and a jewellery store.
Two thieves were involved with these thefts as per CCTV footage obtained from these two shops. The thieves were able to loot lacs of rupees from these shops.
The thieves who entered 'G Gold' shop in Alisha Complex owned by Amir from Kannur took away seven kg silver, one kilogram of precious stones and a Samsung mobile phone. The total value of stolen items here has been estimated at Rs 5.5 lac. They made unsuccessful efforts to break open the safe locker in which gold was kept.
The thieves also went into Sharada Bakery and Juice Centre on the opposite side of G Gold in Pooja Towers, broke open the shutter of the shop, and took away about Rs 8,000 in cash found inside. They also took away cold drinks and eatables from the shop. There are CCTV cameras inside and outside this bakery, and the one fitted outside was removed by the thieves. But the other camera has recorded their movements. The theft occurred at around 2 am.
Assistant superintendent of police, Rishvanth, Uppinangady police sub-inspector, Thimmappa Naik, and other policemen visited the spot. Sniffer dogs and finger print experts also arrived at the spot and helped in investigation.
