47 km of 45 metres width highway via Moodbidri. 30 metres width in city limits

Mangaluru, Jul 17: At a meeting held in the auditorium of Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner's office on Friday July 15, approval was given to limit the proposed expansion of the highway between the city and Karkala through Moodbidri to 30 metres within the city limits, Kaikamba to Badaga Yedapadavu, and Tenka Yedapadavu villages instead of proposed 45 metres.
The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by district in-charge minister, B Ramanath Rai. Speaking on the occasion, land acquisition officer, Gayatri Nayak, said that proposal is ready to widen 47 km of highway between the city and Karkala into four-lane road. She said that the road will be 45 metres wide whereas its widen between Sanoor and Padumarnadu villages will be 30 metres. She added that 307.28 acres of private land and 140.52 acres of government land will he acquired for this purpose.
Objecting to the proposal, people said that widening the road to 45 metres will take over a portion of Sacred school in Padavu village and Roja Mistica school in Mulur vilage, besides land of mosques in Badaga Yedapadavu and Todar villages. After hearing objections Rai instructed the concerned to reduce the width of the proposed highway to 30 metres between Kaikamba and Yedapadavu villages.
MLA, B A Mohiuddin Bava, zilla panchayat president, Meenakshi Shantigodu, deputy commissioner, A B Ibrahim, additional deputy commissioner, Kumar, city corporation commissioner, Mohamed Nazeer and some others were present.
