Sullia, Jul 17: A report from Kalmadka village in the taluk said that some villagers got water supply from the local gram panchayat after the office of the prime minister intervened in the matter.
Six houses in Bommetti in Kalmadka village were not getting water during summer as their houses are located at an elevated stretch. Goltaje Prashant Bhat, who was aware of this problem, had written to the prime minister, seeking his help in addressing this problem.
Recently, a letter was received by Kalmadka gram panchayat from the office of the prime minister, through the taluk panchayat, advising it to do the needful and report compliance. The gram panchayat thereafter arranged to provide tap water to these houses, it is gathered.
The gram panchayat had already been drilling two borewells for supplying water to Boliyor and Bommetti. As soon as the letter was received, the panchayat provided direct tap connection to these houses and wrote to the prime minister's office online, said gram panchayat president, Dharmanna Naik. When the concerned contacted Prashant who had written the letter, they realized that Prashant was in a foreign country and that he had written letter on behalf of some people from the locality who worked for him.
