Mangaluru, Jul 17: An innocent 6-year-old girl became the victim of a stone-pelting during a drunken brawl near a wine shop at Thokkottu here on Saturday July 16.
Aifa (6), daughter of Malar resident Fathima was injured after a fight between four drunk men at a wine shop spilled on to the street and resulted in stone-pelting.
One of culprits, identified as Nawaz (30) from Kasargod was beaten up by the locals while others managed to flee from the spot.
Four youngsters were on their way to Kasargod from Mangaluru on Saturday night. They stopped for drinks at Thokkottu junction and went to a wine shop. The inebriated men then picked up a quarrel at the shop.
As matters got worse, they came out of the shop to the street and began throwing stones. At the same time, Fathima had come to a medical shop with her daughter Aifa then. A stone thrown by the group hit Aifa who was walking next to her mother.
Seeing Aifa injured, angry locals gathered at the spot and questioned the youths. The intoxicated youths threatened that they would kill the young girl and fled from the spot in their Alto car towards Kasargod. But the locals managed to catch hold of Nawaz, who was one among the group. Nawaz was beaten up by the locals, but ultimately due to intervention of some people, the tussle ended in a compromise.
