Bangalore: Cong does a Gowdagiri, JD(S) Heading for a Split

Bangalore, Nov 21: Under instructions from the party high command, the Congress in Karnataka did a Gowdagiri by slamming the doors on former prime minister and Janata Dal (S) chief H D Deve Gowda.

As if that was enough, the Political Affairs Committee met in Delhi on Tuesday and recommended President's Rule in the State and kept the Assembly in suspended animation.

It also recommended the dissolution of the Assembly, but this will have to be okayed by the Parliament. It is expected to be tabled in a couple of days.

With Gowda having no friends, it is only a matter of formality before the Parliament approves the dissolution paving the way for elections any time in six months.

Later in the day, the official proclamation was made and the State came under President's Rule - the second time in less than a month.

Soon after the news of the recommendation of dissolution came in, the Janata Dal(S) faced a major revolt with almost all MLAs upset at the unilateral decisions taken by Gowda that led them to face ignominy, an unwanted elections and loss of power.

In a desperate move to keep the flock together, former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy floated a story that he would form a new regional party abandoning his father. He said he was ready to sacrifice his father and family for the benefit of the MLAs who supported him since he decided to go with BJP 21 months ago.

But there were no takers for his new carrot. The MLAs have already decided to go to the political parties of their choice refusing to stay with the JD(S).

The decision to float a regional party “by coming out of the family,'' was taken when a majority of MLAs were holding a meeting at former Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy's residence. Perturbed by the tough stand taken by party legislators to quit the JD(S), Kumaraswamy immediately contacted Chaluvarayaswamy and held a meeting with a group of disgruntled MLAs who were upset by the decision to vote against Yeddyurappa.

Kumaraswamy is said to have assured MLAs that he too was upset by the developments. “I will come out of the family. Let us float a regional party,'' he is said to have told MLAs who had remained loyal to him for the last 23 months.

The MLAs, however, were not convinced by Kumaraswamy's words and asked him to leave them alone. “We have been duped many a times by you and your family. There is no need to fool us again and again. We have understood that blood is thicker than water,'' they are believed to have told Kumaraswamy.

When contacted Kumaraswamy, however, said that he was serious about floating a new regional outfit. “I am upset by developments in the JD(S) and want to float a regional party with like minded MLAs in the party. The time is ripe for floating a regional outfit,'' he said and added that a final decision will be taken soon.

On increasing frustration among the party MLAs after being duped to vote against the government, Kumaraswamy said: “They are all with me and we will be united as ever."

    What a shame! we the citizen both young and old looked forward to imbibe good morals and quality in life from our elected leaders who took us for ransome for their greed to grab power. Have they no respect for 5.5crore people of Karnataka? If such is the case why do we need elected government at all?

    Why not the Honourable Presidents Rule continue and the learned people like IAS/IPS officers rule the state and save tax payers money for development. Atleast we would'nt have to make our own roads while driving and drink effluent mixed water, besides finding solution for host of problems of a common man.

    It's a good news for people of Karnataka that there will be fresh elections. Atleast now the fight between two power crazy parties will come to an end.They have been fighting like two puppies for one piece of flesh.
