Two drown as fishing boat capsizes at Kumta

Bhatkal, Jul 20: Two persons drowned after a fishing boat capsized off the Vannalli coast in Kumta near here on the evening of Tuesday July 19.

The deceased have been identified as Abul Hassan (40), a resident of Vannalli, and Mohammed Hassan Adam (28), a resident of Tengundi, Bhatkal.

Among the five who were on the boat, three swam to safety while Abul and Adam were washed away. Abdul Ghan Ahmedjij (45), Dildar Mota (30) and Hasan Shamali (40) swam to the shore.

The body of Adam was retrieved on Wednesday July 20 after a long search operation. The search for Abul is still on.

Locals from Bhatkal also arrived in Kumta to assist the operation.
