Kalaburagi: Another suicide - Head constable found hanging in police quarters

Daijiworld Media Network - Kalaburagi

Kalaburagi, Jul 22: The spate of suicides by officers in the state is continuing. In yet another case, a policeman in Sultanpur, Kalaburagi allegedly hanged himself early morning on Friday July 22.

Annarao Saibanna Gamaga (48) was found hanging in the KSRP quarters in Sultanpur.

He served as head constable in Kalaburagi Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB).

Sources said that he committed suicide due to some issue related to transfer.

Gamaga had joined the KSRP in 1993 and just over a year ago, he was posted as head constable of IRB. Due to illness, he had requested for a transfer and for this purpose he had been to Bengaluru, sources said. It is alleged that higher officials had demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lac from him.

This is the fifth case of suicide or attempted suicide by officers this month. On July 5, Chikkamagaluru sub-division DySP Kallappa Handibag committed suicide following allegations of kidnapping. DySP Ganapati of Mangaluru committed suicide two days later on July 7 in Madikeri, followed by attempted suicide by sub-inspector Rupa Tambad in Vijayanagar police station and attempted suicide by Hassan assistant commissioner E Vijaya on July 21.

Police department of India was more corrupt and now things/systems are changing all over India due to strict Government at the centre. Technology is advancing and people are getting educated. Corrupt police are getting caught and there is a heavy pressure on them. Most of the Police can not bear the pressure, shame and that makes them to commit suicide.
Our system has to be changed. Our police department should be well educated and well paid with incentives since their job is risky and corruption starts from them. They are the people who maintain law and order and they should not be greedy and corrupt.

Last month there was a protest called by police association & police are wanted to participated in the protest by taking leave. The main reason for the protest is the problem they are facing like duty hour, leave, pressure from higher-ups, corruption in the dept, interference of politicians etc. instead of listening their problems govt threatened them to attend the duty or ready to face the consequences. This step of govt is discouraged police dept & they thought that for every govt employees there is a right to protest & they are able to get the benefit by this kind of protest. But for police dept, neither they can protest nor they can get the benefit. They are being used by their higher-ups & politician as a tool. That’s why they are taking this kind of step. Even now also the govt didn’t take any action for the solution of this issue why? This is totally negligence of our state govt.

When police force have to guard and protect the people with honesty they should be a model to all others. Why should there be corruption and money deposits to be made when transfer is sought for authentic reasons. The higher up authorities system of granting transfer, leave etc has to be cleaned up for peace and equality

first the public should try to understand where this bribe money will go. it is very clear that political parties are getting portion from this bribe money & they only supporting the corruption. otherwise this time govt would have taken the action & save the life of many people.

the function of govt is not satisfactory. yes of course political parties blame each other but it the duty of elected govt to find a solution for any problem. if it is a first case then we can say that govt was not aware of that. but it is continuing, still govt don't have any answer. even yesterday also one TV channel shown a local politician enter the police station & order the police to do some favour by threatening. it shows how our police dept is treated by our so called politicians. this is total failure of state govt. I m not blaming any political party but it is the responsibility of the elected govt.

Whats going on?? do people started finding solutions with suicide?
Or is it a new weapon to use against system? But what you got by doing this?
You are just giving more chances for these people to harass. You took this extreme step and for a week or a month people will discuss then forget. what have you got? If you would have fought back and saved some more people from harassment then it would have been a ideal situation
