Sullia: Theft of temple ornaments - priest arrested in Bengaluru

Daijiworld Media Network - Sullia (SP)

Sullia, Jul 23: In connection with the theft of ornaments offered to the presiding deities of Shakhapala Subrahmanya temple and Ullakulu and Ullalthi Bachchanayaka Daivasthana at Yenekal village near Subrahmanya in the taluk by devotees to meet religious vows undertaken by them, the police have arrested priest of the temple, Murali Venkatesh, from the house of a relative at Bengaluru on Friday July 22 morning.

The theft had come into the open when handing over charge to the newly appointed committee on Tuesday July 19. It is said that the gram panchayat secretary, Monappa, who was appointed as supervisor, had left the key of the safe locker of the temple with temple employee, Nagaraja, duly reposing trust on him. Murali, it is said, misused this situation and with the help of keys, took away ornaments worth over Rs 1,90000. Murali had escaped with family on the night of Wednesday, a day before policemen undertook investigation.

After being arrested, Murali Venkatesh told the police that he had pledged these ornaments to various finance companies and cooperative banks and availed of loans.

A team led by local police circle inspector, V Krishnayya, went to different banks and found the gold ornaments there. After Murali's whereabouts came to be known, the team led by Krishnauyya went to Bengaluru and arrested him from there.

Priests also human being.Let us learn to respect and stop condemning. Any whey law will take action why we need to judge.Let us pray for all the priests. They need special grace to serve people. All of us are sinners one way or the other.Let us not forget it.

It is a shame priest ranaway with the ornaments of the temple.whatever his Needs or emergency was,he should have asked permission or could lend Money from others.afterall it belongs to the temple, not him.looks like selling property ,or mortgage of others property. He must have gone very mad seeing so much of Gold lying around. As they say woman, wealth, and earth makes one go mad.samething must have happened to this priest. Now bring back what you have stolen dear Venkatesh to the origin,or you will be opfered by devotees to the temple.what says your Family?find good?I would not like to have such a husband.(as a father too)Sankata bandaga venkatesha is not true.It should be turned as venkateshanna sankatadalli biddaga.

In the past Zee News in one of its documentary broadcasted auditing of only 4 temples across India.

According to the report this temples hold 20 lakh tonnes of Gold reserve. As per their estimate it can feed the nation free for 2 years.

The report also said this temples generate 1,32,000 per annum. If properly utilized nation can build 220 bed 660 super speciality hospitals.

By this estimate, about 32.7% percent of Indians are extremely poor.

Surprising despite massive donations, the system seems to be failure uplifting their own community.Disparity, cast system are the few problems still prevalent in the majority community.

As per my analysis, many of this donation never reach the poor and somebody is getting rich overnight.

RTI activist Late Vinayak Baliga is one such whistleblower in our Mangalore exposed the misgivings.

Make your body the temple of God-Basavana

This theft is one small. But there are many which go unnoticed.

I would advice my Hindu brothers to donate to your own neighbours, within families who you now better and can uplift.

    Jai Hind

@SMR- 20 lac tonnes? Are you talking about rice or wheat production?
Estimated gold reserve with RBI is approximately 20 billions dollars.
Estimated US federal gold reserve is just 8000 tonnes.

You can only get 1 kg of gold if you mine more than 1 tone of rock and soil.

Most of the money from state treasury has gone for bhagyas and appeasement schemes and jayantis...

If priests have some profession, skill and education...they should do priests job as part time upon their interest! Then no need to blame financial glitches!! We should think about daily bread of priest if they are must!!

There is muzurai department in Karnataka and earning temple donations in thousand of crores. The same money being used for shaadi bhagya, huzz yattra subsidies and other schemes. Why don't they have schemes to pay honorable stipend say 1000 rupees every month each priests? There should be some boundaries for appeasement politics.

Poojari is after all human being, low salary, family problem, other financial crunch must have led him to this unethical act. Circumstances sometime make a person go wrong.

Hope the temple committee pardons him this time after recovering the stolen valuables.
