Daijiworld Media Network - Beltangady (SP)

Beltangady, Jul 23: As per information, the Indian Air Force cargo plane which went missing when flying from Chennai to Port Blair on Friday July 22 was carrying Ekanath Shetty (48) from Guruvayanakere in the taluk.

Ekanath Shetty had taken retirement after serving in Indian Army. Then he had joined the air force.

Shetty had left his village only three days back to his workplace. He was working in the Defence Service Corps (DSC) department of air force. He had told his family that he would not fly on Friday as he had a small surgery. But now since he cannot be contacted, it is believed that he was in the ill-fated air force plane.

It is learnt that officials had called Shetty's wife to inform her that Ekanath was flying in the plane which went missing all of a sudden. His wife works as teacher at SDM institute in Ujire.

This is a terrible tragedy. Till the plane and the people on board are found, we have to wait and see. I feel sorry for the families who are hoping for the best.

Hope our sleeping Central Govt. and Defence Ministry wake up, before many more innocent, precious lives of our brave Air Force & Defence personnel are unneccessarily lost.

Hope equal importance is given to the lives of our brave Defence Personnel, as is being given to those of our politicians & babus. The discrimination and callousness has to end!
