Kidnapped Indian woman Judith D'Souza rescued from Kabul

New Delhi, Jul 23 (IANS) : An Indian aid worker who was kidnapped in Afghanistan last month has been rescued and will reach New Delhi on Saturday evening, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said.

"I am happy to inform you that Judith D'Souza has been rescued," Sushma Swaraj tweeted.

Hailing from Kolkata, Judith, 40, who works for the Aga Khan Foundation, was seized by gunmen on June 9 in the Qala-e-Fatullah area of Kabul while she was returning home after dinner at a friend's place.

Appreciating Ambassador Manpreet Vohra for "an outstanding job", Swaraj said: "I have spoken to Judith. She is reaching Delhi this evening. Ambassador @VohraManpreet is accompanying her."

Swaraj thanked ambassador Vohra Manpreet and Afghanistan for the support.

In her tweet she added: "Thank you Afghanistan - for all your help and support in rescuing Judith."

Judith was working with the NGO as a senior technical adviser since July 2015.

Her family expressed gratitude following the news of her recovery.

"Judith has been rescued by the government. Our family's joy knows no bounds. Gratitude to @PMOIndia @SushmaSwaraj @VohraManpreet," Judith's brother Jerome tweeted.

Very true, it's the duty and responsibility of ministry.

However, during congress regime people never witnessed ministry doing it's duty with responsibility.

This is for the first time we are seeing such an active and responsible ministry. Obviously sane people will appreciate it.

    Dear Peter,
Always compliment a person or a company for the good work they do, be it by anybody.
This is how we can bring positive changes in the world.
Duty yes, but how many do their duties sincerely?
We are called to be like salt and light.
Is it not said, if a person gives you a cup of water for my sake, he will not loose his reward?
We must never loose hope. Every effort must be made to be truthful and bold and to bring positive changes in the society!

A message to all who say the Modi Govt. is non-performing. Indeed the Govt. is working actively in almost all fields. Being out of the country we can see and feel the difference in our embassies and consulates. In the past work never used to be done so fast and prompt. A few days back I was amazed when a person from another country appreciated the working of our embassy. My sincere thanks to the Govt. of India for securing the release of Judith, for evacuating stranded Indians from Yemen and Sudan and hope Fr. Tom too will be back home soon.

Hats off to our foreign affairs ministry and specially Foreign minister Sushmaji 's continuous effort in bringing back Judith D'Souza back to India from the deadly place called Afghanistan. Meantime, we have to thank God for releasing her from the kidnappers. Modi's International trips have greatly helped in building strong relation with rest of the world so that they listen to us and support us as one humanity.
Ours is a secular country called India. In her lap breathe the happy followers of the various religions of the world. We have a unique culture which has devolved through the centuries. There is much diversity among our people. We speak many languages, worship many gods and yet we have the same spirit, the spirit of India, running through all parts of our country binding us together. We have great unity in diversity.

Credit will be given to the right people at right time. There must be many more people behind this effort for sure who is responsible for this good act . Its not one person efforts.
