Police Commissioner saves woman Home Guard from ending life

Home Guard Sumathi was not paid for 4 months

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (RJP)

Bengaluru, Jul 23: City police commissioner N S Megharik reportedly rushed to the police quarters at Shivajinagar after he received information that a woman home guard attached to his office, was planning to commit suicide on Friday, July 22 evening.

Sumathi S is the person who tried to end her life over delay in the release of salary by the police department. She regulates traffic in front of the police commissioner’s office.

Distressed by a four-month delay in payment of salaries, Sumathi tried to consume poison. But police commissioner’s visit at right time saved her life, reports said.

It is said that after completing her work on Infantry Road, Sumathi explained her problem to DCP (Traffic) Abhishek Goyal who might have sent the message to the commissioner’s office. But Goyal said he is not aware of any suicide attempt by Sumathi.

The Commissioner after visiting Sumathi gave her Rs 2,000 and assured her that the salary would be released soon, a Sumathi’s relative said adding “Several Home Guards have not received their salaries for the last two months. The Commissioner has promised that he would address the matter immediately.”

Sumathi has been working for six years with the Bengaluru police. She was not paid at all for the past four months. She was forced to borrow Rs 35,000 for her son’s fees and other home expenses from her police friends. Her monthly salary is Rs 12,000.

Sumathi is recognised as an efficient and cheerful person. She has received awards and commendations from the police. She comes from a very poor background and hence she does not have any savings.

“I have faced many problems in life, but I had never thought of suicide. This was the first time. I don’t know what pushed me to such desperation,” Sumathi said, as per sources.

Sumathi also had fear that she would be sacked if she reminded about the non-payment of salary.

“Sumathi had not consumed anything for the last two days and it had affected her health. She is resting at her house. Reports of her attempting suicide are false,” Megharik said denying that Sumathi had tried to end her life.

Police are trying their best to hide the suicide attempt by Sumathi.

In gulf some of the employers not paying salary to Indian employees for months and years. Will they suicide? HOW MUCH TRAUMA they under went to live and feed their beloved one back home only they knows. Here in India we have lot of options where there is not. But it is not fair by any government not to hear the grievance of low paid police personals. Look at the increment MPs and MLAs getting everyday. People has to kick that guys who are not meeting basic requirement of the common people irrespective of the party they belongs.

It Shows apathy of our govt.towards their employees.and ability.Shame on them. How should a normal Family with children live without salary for months? Now ,as a result, police commissioner should take Action immediately on the Person who was responsible to Forward the salary of These Homeguards.Dont just leave that matter. It should be a lesson to others about their dutys, and ask the reason.Best is sake the one who is incompetable.Hope the Lady has recovered from her thoughts, and never attempt again.By such Action, noone will benefit but only her Family will suffer without mother, wife or parents.Bangalore public wants you dear Sumathi still.and your Family too.

    After Daylight Robberies by
Corrupt Elected People and Corrupt Govt. Officials, there is no money left to pay 12,000 for the Police Staff. Most of the money is spent on Minister's Overseas Travelling and Security Expenses. Take a look at the Cars they are travelling and the Luxury Life of Them living. At the same time look at the Police Quarters where Children of Police families live. What a unhealthy living these Children are facing. Even a Dog will not enter them looking at the Condition. I have Physically seen these quarters and felt the sadness towards these Children. Human Rights are not aware of these things at all.
When a low paid Police accepts little bribe,it ia a crime to Public Eyes. But when a Corrupt Official accepts in lakhs of Rupees,it is part of their Dignity.

Every year Coming Karnataka Govt.is spending crores of rupees for Dasara festival. Govt. allot around 6 to 7 crores for Mangalore, similarly 15 to 17 crores for Mysore, is it a worth to spend so much tax payers money for 3 days festival, when our own brothers and sisters are deprived their salary for months together and forcing them to commit suicide or land up in corruption, our whole operation is controlled by corrupt officials, Rajya sabha MP Mallya fled with crores of rupees after getting timely inside information from corrupt officials to leave India otherwise he will be prosecuted. If CBI raid on every top Govt.official/Govt.contractors houses/bunglows crores of rupees can be recovered from them, but nobody dare to do this, because every one is corrupt in one way or other. If a priest take 120 gram ornaments from temple for emergency it will become front line news/breaking news

This incident and so many others which has happened recently shows a very sorry state of affairs of the State Government. Why they have delayed the salary payment of home guards who stand outside in hot sun or rain and do their service . After all what they get is a small salary with which it is very difficult to run their family. Cases will be booked against them if they attempt suicide. Situation is very pathetic. Government should be drawn to Court and people in charge has to be held accountable and their salary withheld.

I have seen Sumathi S for the last few years standing in front of the Police Commissioners Officers , It's shocking to learn that a strong woman like her has been forced to resort to suicide.

It does reflect on the poor working conditions and the financial crisis that theses Home Guards & Constables have to undergo along with humiliation almost throughout their lives.

It's High time the Home Guards & Constables are treated well and their salaries and other facilities are on par with other Government officials in their grade. It's sad that the public apathy towards the dues and rights of the Police force is also contributing to their plight. Added to this even Ministers say that the Cops are used to stressful conditions for the past decades and it's nothing new.
