Sullia: Police recover temple ornaments from finances, banks

Sullia, Jul 24: The police have recovered all the gold ornaments belonging to Shankhapala Subrahmanya temple and Ullakulu Ullalthi and Bachchanayaka Daivasthana in Yenekal village, which had been allegedly stolen by its priest, Murali Venkatesh, and pledged to various finance companies and cooperative banks for availing loans.

The police found that these ornaments were stolen and loans were raised against them by the priest about a month back. He had fled immediately after it came to be known that ornament were missing and police investigation was about to begin. The police had arrested him from J P Nagar Bengaluru.

A team led by local police circle inspector, V Krishnayya, visited several spots along with Murali Venkatesh and recovered 30 gold rings and a gold chain. Two more rings are yet to be recovered.

The accused was produced before the court on Saturday upon which he was handed over to three days police custody.

    This is too much...police hyping the issue too much as if they achieved great.Real culprits are temple admn,locals connected to management and govt.There are about 38 thousand temples in the state under govts muzharai dept.Priests of these temples are under paid because they have no union or go on strike.Shame on the authorities who are making this issue as achievement.Press people also stake holders...shame ..shame...

    Unfortunately the temple trustee who are well off, do not understand the agony, financial situation of the ordinary temple priests. Have they ever spoken to this temple priest about his well being. I am sure, definitely NO.

    Now a days, it is extremely difficult to get a temple priest. Very few people will opt from priestly community to this job. Lack of appreciation, too much politics within and so many negative comments.

    Here I too blame the temple management as well as the community people who have not taken care of the priests.

    Humiliation to the temple priest is also humiliation to the community people. Hope he and his family will be allowed to live in dignity.

    Such humiliation is totally uncalled for.
    He should have been given a chance to reform. Also perhaps his financial condition needed him to avail loans though he should have informed the temple authority before taking this step and abusing such a righteous position

    We have to give National Award to the Temple Committee for detecting 1900 crores fraud(app.120 grams gold ornaments) and nabbing the international thief within shortest time, they deserve award plus 1 lac rupees each member from Govt.

    Just blown out of proportion for a first time offence. Such humiliation with photographs was not necessary. People make mistakes when they are in a tight situation and they should be given a chance to reform.The Police and the temple authorities could have handled it in a better way.

    Poor SC,ST,OBC Students with less marks - govt hostel, free eduction, govt job.
    very poor brahmin students with less marks. No reservation anywhere. Only in JAIL. God save our people.

    @jossey- do you think people standing in the photograph are too innocents? Just go for passport verification. They will ask minimum 500 rupees for verification.
