Mangaluru, Jul 24: District in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai laid foundation stone for Alake, Kavoor markets, Kavoor junction development and inaugurated first floor of Kasba-Bazar night shelter here on Sunday July 24.
Addressing the press meet at circuit house, Ramanath Rai said, “Foundation stone has been laid to construct a dining hall at Town Hall at a cost of Rs 99.85 lac under 13th Finance Commission. We are also constructing a full-fledged market at Alake with an estimated cost of Rs 50 lac (first phase) and construction of a market at Kavoor at estimated cost of 1 crore. Kavoor Junction will be developed with an estimated cost of Rs 1.5 crore. The ground floor of night shelter at Bunder-Kasba will be constructed at cost of Rs 99.80 lac and it was inaugurated today.”
“Alake is located in the heart of city where majority of the business transactions take place. The construction of this market will fulfil the needs of people as there was no full-fledged market at Alake. Kavoor is one of the developing areas in city with roads connecting the airport and Kuloor-Panambur industrial areas. Several people visit the area. Hence the lack of good market facility was causing inconvenience to people.” Rai added.
Further, Mayor Harinath said, “Kavoor Junction will also be developed at a cost of Rs 1.50 crore. The development of junction is to facilitate smooth flow of traffic. Moreover, a public toilet at a cost of Rs 12 lac will be constructed adjacent to the junction.”
“There were some obstacles to utilize premium FAR fund. This been brought to the notice of ministry and ministry has revised guidelines. Hence the premium FAR funds will be utilized for the developmental works,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA J R Lobo said, “Night Shelter at Kasaba-Bazar is the first in the entire state. Nearly 75 people can be accommodated in this night shelter. Markets in Alape and Kaikambe will be modernized. A consultancy proposal will be presented for the construction of bus stand, central market and KFDC. Resolution in this regard has been passed.”
