Mangaluru: KSRTC strike - Drivers, conductors stop buses, police intervene

Mangaluru, Jul 25: Hours ahead of the two-day state-wide bandh on Monday July 25, KSRTC employees on Sunday July 24 tried to stop various buses plying from KSRTC bus stand at Bejai here. The Barke police intervened and brought the situation under control.

Late evening, KSRTC drivers and conductors who had finished their duty started stopping the buses plying to various places from the city. Intially they started stopping the buses near the KSRTC luggage section and after the police arrived, continued doing so at the main entrance of the bus stand.

District commissioner of KSRTC Vinayak Hegde informed the Barke police and the team led by inspector Rajesh Naik stationed itself in the bus stand premises along with the one platoon of KSRP personnel. The buses resumes their journey after the police intervened.

Speaking to daijiworld, Vinayak Hegde said that all the buses scheduled for Sunday proceeded in their respective routes. "No one can stop the buses today. About 30 buses along with 600 passengers are scheduled to leave the city and will do so as per schedule. So many people have booked the tickets and services will continue till tomorrow (July 25) morning."

Meanwhile, private players are operating additional buses to Bengaluru and other busy routes and are carrying passengers who are willing to travel.

KSRTC employees have called for the state-wide strike to urge the state government to fulfill their various demands including hike in wages.

    WHAT IS THE DIESEL PRICE.
    MAINTAINING KSRTC IS BIG HEADACHE FOR THE GOVT.
    HOWEVER NAGESH NAIK COMMENTED GOGLE WATCH ETC. WHAT ABOUT MODI. EVERY ONE HOUR HE IS CHANGING THE CLOTHS.
    OUR GREAT PRIME MINISTER DR. MANMOHAN SINGH SHOULD BE BACK.
    FUEL PRICES WILL COME DOWN TO 30 TO 40 RS. ONLY DR SINGH CAN DO THIS. MODI CANT STAND AGAINST GREAT ECONOMIST DR. SINGH. CHIEF MINISTER OFFERED KSRTC WAGES HIKE.
    IF THEY ARE STICK WITH THERE DEMAND GOVT. CANT HELP IT.
    WAKE UP NAGESH NAIK YOU ARE IN WHICH WORLD.

    Its too much...no country will be ready to increase 25% salary at a time, maximum is 8 to 10% in which Karnataka govt. agreed. This is just a political motivated strike which pinned by opposition to create unrest in the state. SHAME ON you KSRTC EMPLOYEES for not considering public convenience and disturbing the student for not attending their scheduled exams and your backing shit political party. Govt shall not budge for their demand, let them strike they automatically feel the heat by being hungry for many days.

    first give lectures to your useless leaders who wears Rs. 70 lacs watch , costliest goggles , travel in special flights to delhi to fall on the feet , resides in posh bungalows.

    where as poor KSRTC employees work day and night for jujubi salary.

    People have all the rights to strike but they have no right to forcefully stop the vehicles from running. If there is any damage to public property of any sort, the organizers of the strike should be made responsible to recoup the losses including the individuals who incur the loss by hiring taxi, rickshaw by paying higher fare.
