Mangaluru, Jul 27: The DK district Ex Servicemen Association in association with the Shastavu Bhoothanatheshvara Trust paid tribute to the martyrs of Kargil war in commemoration of Kargil Vijay Diwas at War Memorial Kadri by lighting the candles on Tuesday, July 26 evening.

Speaking on the occasion ex serviceman Col N Sharath Bhandary said "We commemorate July 26 as the Kargil Vijay Diwas, because on this day the Indian Army chased away the last platoon of Pakistani soldiers from their bunkers in Kargil. The Indian soldiers won the battle fighting at temperatures below zero degree and won the war for their motherland. Many Indian soldiers lost their lives while more than thousand were wounded. Hence it is our duty to remember their sacrifice."

Home guards district commander Dr Mural Mohana Choontharu and Premalatha V Shetty from Shastavu Bhoothanatheshvara trust lit the lamp in the beginning followed by the ex servicemen, home guards and the gathered.
