Mangalore, Nov 24: St Theresa’s school – primary section celebrated its annual day on Wednesday Nov 21, whereas the high school section’s Annual day was held on Friday, Nov 23.
On Wednesday, Nov 21st the Platinum jubilee hall of St Sebastian Church, Bendore was abuzz with children who had come to celebrate the annual event. Children clad in the colourful attires stole the hearts of the audience.
The annual day’s program was suffused with dances and songs and other cultural programmes. The programme began with a welcome dance by the children. Little children received huge applauses for their presentation of the English play ‘Love Alone Can Heal’. The occasion concluded as all round entertainment programme thoroughly enjoyed by the parents and other guests, watching the children performing captivatingly on the stage.
The chief guest on the occasion was the Roshni Nilaya, School of Social Work’s retired professor and head of the department of English, Maria D’Costa. Parish Priest of St Sebastian Church Fr Peter S Noronha graced the occasion. Moreover, Superior -Central Delegation Lillis B S, school correspondent Sr Juliana and principal Rose Margaret were present.
The annual day celebrations for the Secondary section (high school) of St Theresa's School began with John Prasad Menezes, former president of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) delivering the inaugural address held at the Platinum Jubilee hall, Bendoor on Friday, Nov. 23.
Menezes in his speech declared that around 30 years ago, Indians were not welcomed by any European nation. However today, it is no longer the case, in-fact things have changed for the better now. India has become the apple of the western eyes. Owing to globalization, we ought to think globally, and yet remain local (at heart), he remarked.
According to Menezes a person will not face boredom, if he gets involved in an activity which gives happiness. Moreover, he advised that perseverance and patience are essential for the one to reach greater heights, giving the example of the film ' Chak-De India' as a celluloid example in this regard.
It is about time, Menezes said to look beyond the horizons and grow above the level of ordinary success. One should never disregard others who are facing hardships, in their quest to learn foreign languages, he added while laying emphasis on learning international languages.
Dealing at length about the student’s safety and security, he opined that safety measures should be given serious thought by the educational institutions. Today road accidents and mishaps have become every day affairs. And therefore he advised with deep concern that students need proper training and guidance in this regard.
On the topic of India and Indians, he averred that the famous slogan has been resonating in the city that ‘East or West India is the Best’. Of course, India is the best, he declared but at the same time queried “But, what about the Indians?” Every Indian needs to become an ambassador for his countryin front of other nationals. Hence, there is a need to instill good cultural and moral values within, he advised.
Sr Wilberta, vice president of Bethany Education Society presided over the function and Sr Lillis, delegation superior was the guest of honor. Sr Juliana Monis, correspondent of the school, welcomed the gathering. Rose Margaret, principal of St Theresa School presented the annual report. Sr Joy, secretary of Bethany Educational Society and Cedric D`Souza, president PTA were present.
