Mangaluru: KSRTC staff strike continues, hundreds protest in city

Mangaluru, Jul 27: The strike called by staff unions of various transport corporations in the state has entered the third day without any decision from the government.

The members of staff unions of KSRTC gathered in hundreds to protest at KSRTC bus stand in Lalbhag in city and shouted slogans demanding hike in their pay.

Government has agreed to a maximum of 10 % hike and asked the protestors to call off the strike and come for further negotiations. But the striking unions have demanded a hike of 35%.

    The matter could have been handled by both sides in a better manner, without causing tremendous inconvenience and hardships to the already harassed commuting public.

    KSRTC & BMTC (Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corpn.) are huge organisations, which have earned 'All-India Awards' for being the best public-sector transport undertakings, yet all the public sympathy and support has been lost by them in these last 3 days, due to this unfortunate total shutdown of services.

    Before demanding a 30-35% raise, the striking unions have to realise that, 35% increase in profits has been achieved mainly by means of charging perhaps the highest tariff in the entire country.

    Very heavy investments which are required to be made by both the transport corporations for replacing/upgrading the ageing/unsafe fleet and providing better commuter facilities, will simply not be possible, unless huge amounts are set aside out of the profits for this purpose. Hope better sense prevails, in the interests of all.

    gradually govt must privatize the Bmtc and ksrtc, bmtc is under loss ,first make all employees responsible for loss, only few employees sincerally works and most of the employees attitude and rash behevior with passengers, more ever they have job protection where other private sectors do not have, there is no monthly qtrely targets , no appriasal system payhikes,convenient shift hrs.
    govt must stict on thier stand and give hike only those deserved.

    Looking at the salary structure which shown in TV9 News channel, They are paid higher than the IT company, Now again they need the salary review means what in some days KSRTC jobs will be more valuable than the IT companies in Bangalore.
