Udupi, Jul 28: Forest officials, on Thursday July 29 at Athradi, managed to catch a leopard that gave sleepless nights to people in the Hiriadka area.

The female leopard aged about five years, used to disturb people and domestic animals in the area. The forest officials who were tracking the movements of the leopard could not catch it till now. The trap they kept was not of help as the leopard did not visit the trap. But they were optimistic. On the night of Wednesday, the leopard entered the trap and got locked inside.

Forest officials Naresh from Hiriadka, Ramesh from Udupi and staff Manohar were part of the operation. Presently the leopard is still lodged at Hiriadka forest office premises and it will be taken to a place as per the instructions by the forest officials from Bengaluru.

Before poaching was going on heavily by gangs like Veerappan. Save tiger campaign is also working for some extent which has increased the numbers of Leopards and Tigers. Forest has reduced after cutting down trees and wild animals are coming to villages for food. Now forest department has become more vigilant and strict due to strong media.

    People,

Leopards are bigger than the cage...that's why they don't go inside the cage...

Forest People should make the cage as big as at least Rai could sit inside....

Dev, looks like your house is like 'Wild life Sanctuary'...take this Leopard and adopt it...no monkey's will come near bye...

Be careful about your dogs and cows...you may need to keep them under protective custody..like Hafez Saeed of Pakistan...

By that equation Americans being one of the top beef eaters are Anti Hindustani's (AKA anti nationals).

Scientifically those Hindustani's who are hell bent on going to America for work or living are also to some extent can be called as deemed anti-nationals.

    ah.. ha.. ha..!!!

BEAUTIFUL ANIMAL!!my be these wild animals are loitering in search of food. we have already destroyed most of the flora/fauna and forests.from where these poor creatures can get food? instead of keeping and feeding rapists, corrupt politicians feed these animals daily one by one.let them enjoy!!!

Dakshinna Kannada is now not fit to live for human-beings.
At the early morning you will have disturbance of peacock..who arrive in a lot.
In the after noon it's the time of monkeys who come in a group say 45-60..chikka, pikka, sanna..and attack all coconut trees..jumping from one tree to another.
At night..you will see kad-panjee (pigs) comes in jund...passing thru paddy fields..destroying each and everything. They don't know up to now..how to walk...is yummy dish of some people.
At mid-night leopard travels..picking up either tamed dog or kanjee...attacking instantly.
Better leave for himalayas..as very dangerous to stay..due to these animals, IM and now IS.

It's not new in this area..where in you will find leopard or tiger. From earlier times people faced difficulties with these animals. As it's vast jungle.. movement of these animals are natural. It's all due to our earlier congress government not able to procure power supply to all villages...constant seen such wild animals everywhere. What they have done from last 67 years god only knows. See how modiji is now working to have power supply in all the villages.

you mean Modiji is supplying electricity for all Jungles?

earlier people used stay along with nature and nature animals without any complaints, problem started when man started to destroy jungle for his own benefit....to build concrete jungles...towers....commercial complexes....bla bla....

    Dear Dev Kumar/ Hiriadka
I am from Athrady and well knows these areas and still I didn't see any special improvement in power supply after Modi's government came. come on man grow up. How you can blame any government for these wild animals seen in our area. As you also well aware that all these our areas are fully Forest Area and naturally this kind animals will seen. Please be proud of being a person of this places.

When government propose any projects..you people are agitate and not giving any importance mentioning it's destroy nature beauty of the area. At least would have street lights..in junctions...by which wild animals won't move easily. Now people are in hunting spree..catching innocent wild animals. If something goes wrong with the animal..who is responsible..!!
