Mangalore: ‘Guruvandana’ Programme of Shalmali Ghate Held in Town Hall

Mangalore, Nov 25 (MB): ‘Bharatanritya Guruvandana’ programme by the young artiste Shalmali Ghate, a Class IX student of Canara Girls’ High School, was held in the Town Hall on Sunday, November 25 evening.

Shalmali Ghate, daughter of Sumana and Sudhir Ghate (CMD of Magnum Intergrafiks), who has completed senior grade Bharatanatyam, has been studying this art for 9 years, under the guidance of her Nritya teacher Sharadamani Shekhar of Sri Sanatana Natyalaya here.

She has also been practising Karnataka classical music over the past 8 years under Sheela Divakar and Srinath Marathe. Moreover, she has also worked as model for many TV advertisements.

On Sunday, she performed Bharatanritya for the songs of Pushpanjali, Padavarna, Nammamma Sharade, Vande Mataram, Adharam Madhuram, Abhinaya Shurpanakhi and Tillana.

The stage programme held prior to maiden show was presided over by Karnataka Yakshagana Academy president Keremane Shambhu Hegde. Dr M Mohan Alva, chairman of Alvas Education Foundation, well known scholar Dr M Prabhakar Joshi and Vijay Sankeshwar, chairman of Vijayanand Roadlines and Vijayanand Logistics Limited, were the chief guests of the occasion.

Sharadamani and Shalmali’s parents Sumana and Sudhir Ghate were present.
