Mangaluru, Jul 29: "To inspire confidence in students and to enhance their potential to think out of the box, Vikas Pre-University College will initiate '500 Ka Josh' (Panchsau Ka Josh) competition as well as a career guidance programme on Saturday August 27," announced Krishna J Palemar, chairman of Vikas Education Trust.

Addressing a press meet here on Friday August 29, Palemar said, "Bearing in mind the 'Make in India' programme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vikas Pre-University College came forward to hold this competition for class 10 students across the district. Vikas Institute has already approached 40 Kannada and English medium schools in the district to participate in the programme.

"The competition will be held in three categories, namely, best business model - to incline the students towards commerce; best innovation - to ignite the spark for science and reasoning; and aesthetically brilliant model - to imagine different dimensions of art.

"A seed fund of Rs 500 will be given to each team and each school can have a maximum of five teams. Each team consists of three members. All these teams are expected to develop innovative, aesthetically brilliant and creative models by only using this seed fund which will benefit society and nurture the students' potential. The programme will give hands-on experience to the students to help them select the right course on completion of their class 10.

"The winner of this competition in each category will get a scholarship amount of Rs 10,000. Also, the amount which remains from the seed fund including the contribution from Vikas College, will be used to provide essential items to the underprivileged orphans and the aged in the outskirts of the city in the presence of the participants," Palemar informed.

Ananth Prabhu, director of Vikas Edu Solutions, Prof Rajaram K, advisor, Prof Venkata Rayudu, principal were present.
