Mangaluru, Jul 29: “Working towards ‘Smart Swachh Mangaluru’, Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) has called for new tender to collect dry and wet waste management separately in coming days with a slogan ‘Mix Malpodchi Akka Mix Madbedi Anna’. The new management will collect wet waste on all seven days and dry waste once in a week. People will be given two dustbins for the same,” said Mayor Harinath while addressing the council meeting at MCC office on Friday July 29.

Sudhir Shetty Kannur said, “Two years ago this project was implemented on pilot basis at Court Road and Mannagudda ward but it was not effectively managed. Implementing this scheme now in all 60 wards seems impractical.”

Expressing his disappointment over MCC officials for not effectively supervising the Antony Solid Waste management, he said, “After giving the tender to Antony Waste Handling, MCC officers washed their hands. Officers did not inspect the work done by the company and wasted crores of rupees on solid waste management. It is duty of the officers to look into this. Any agency which works for MCC should be given proper target.”

Opposition party leader Roppa D Bangera alleged wrongdoing and demanded for an inquiry and proper discussion on the failure of Antony Waste Handling.

Dayanda Shetty said that even the present door to door collection was not handled properly.

Replying to opposition, mayor Harinath said, “Huge amount of money has been spent on this company for solid waste management. Another Rs 2 crore will be spent on this solid waste management and officers should take this seriously.”

Environment engineer Madhu said, “The pilot project segregation of dry waste and wet waste was implemented in 2012-13 at Court Road and Mannaguda wards. In 2015, the process was revised.”

Questioning the success of new method, former mayor Mahabala Marla said, “When it could not be done successful in two wards, can it be done in 60 wards effectively?”

Corporator, Kavitha Sanil said, “This scheme of waste management will be successful when enough awareness is created among people. In future this will be implemented effectively.”

During the meeting, corporator Vinayaraj raised traffic problem in city. He said that 95% buildings do not have parking facilities. He also questioned officers who gave these apartments door numbers. “Without parking facilities, commercial buildings have been given permission for trade licence,” he alleged.

Lancelot Pinto, chairman, standing committee of Town Planning has been directed to look into the matter.

Chief Whip MLC Ivan D'souza was felicitated during the meeting.

However MCC is waking up,The name itself says Antony Waste management, name only says that it is a waste company, moreover most of the employers & employee's in the firm (like managers, supervisors, contractors)are congi's who are lazy and want to get money without working,If we ask them why they are not collecting door to door everyday their reaction will be as goondas and vulgarly they speak.

From day one Antony was wrong in every sense for Corporators. It is easy to look at the dirty back of others but they cannot see their own dirty back. Look at the pile of torn banners behind the office of Ivan D'Souza at MCC along with a pile of Tree clippings. Stagnant water is stored on Banner pile to breed Mosquitoes. I have shown the Photos of these Mosquitoes Beds to Health Dept. After months it was still there. For not having enough, Mosquitoes are breeding inside pile of tree clippings.
These things Mayor will not know. Only Antony is guilty.
City Civil Contractors were throwing left over material such as wood pieces, torn plastic and Tarpaulin material at job site on roadside. Is Antony responsible for cleaning up the mess left by Contractors. It is the duty of these corrupt Contractors to clean up their own mess.
The biggest mistake of Antony is not paying enough kickbacks.
Mr Vinayaraj, you have brought a good point about traffic problems. To avoid this problem I have installed a "Bus Stop" sign in Bendoorwell, near Sumana Residensy Hotel at my Cost. This was due to request of Traffic Inspector Mr Suresh Kumar and of Traffic Jawans and Traffic Police. This request was to avoid traffic Jams in Bendoorwell Junction which was hard for Police to handle. But a Corporator got involved at request of private party and sign was removed and disappeared. I wanted to challenge this Corporator and installed a new Sign at my cost to help Police and Jawans as well as for Public Benefit. Let Him try again!
