Mangaluru, Jul 30: “We face scarcity of opportunities though there is technological competence in the country. Universities should mould the lives of students to indulge in knowledge and research in the field of technology,” opined state governor Vajubhai Vala.
He was speaking after inaugurating Modern Extensive Medical Clinical Training and Simulation Centre, Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Centre, System Biology and Molecular Medicine Centre and Mechanized Surgery Centres at Deralakatte Yenepoya University on Saturday, July 30.
“When the rich work for the development of the poor, it amounts to working for the development of the country. The achievement of Yenepoya University in medical fields and their efforts to make the benefits reach the common man are praiseworthy. When knowledge and wealth go hand in hand, they can prove be instrumental in making society better. Technology has improved in the country with ISRO having the capacity to send twenty satellites in space. It may send 80 satellites within few years. Women have sincere character. Therefore, more women should get opportunities in the development of society. Men cannot be discarded. On the contrary if sincerity is stressed, there is no doubt that pro-society development works will be continuous,” he said.
Yenepoya University vice-chancellor Y Abdulla Kunhi speaking on the occasion said that the hospital is conducting several programmes for the poor and working for society. “The Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Centre in the hospital will study living cells and conduct research on them,” he said.
Minister of forests B Ramanath Rai, minister of food and civil supplies U T Khader, Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo, Mangaluru North MLA Moideen Bava, former minister Abhayachandra Jain, Mangaluru University vice-chancellor Professor Byrappa, Nitte University chancellor N Vinaya Hegde, Islamic Education Trust president Y Mohammed Kunhi, deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim were present.
Yenepoya University vice-chancellor Dr Vijay Kumar welcomed. Dr Mallika Shetty and Denishan Alexander compered the programme. Registrar Dr G Srikumar Menon proposed vote of thanks.
