Mangaluru: 60 CCTV cameras to be installed in city- police commissioner

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, Aug 1: “49 CCTV cameras are working within the Mangaluru police commissionerate limits as of now. Another 60 CC Cameras will be installed soon," said police commissioner M Chandra Shekar.

He was speaking after presiding over grievances meeting of Dalits held in his office auditorium on Sunday, July 31.

“Incidences of harassments on Dalits have been increasing in north India and those cannot be ruled out in Mangaluru. Therefore CCTV cameras should be installed in Valencia and other places where Dalits are staying in large numbers,” urged Dalit leaders. The commissioner said that Dalit colonies will be considered while installing 60 CCTV cameras.

Some Dalit leaders said that many vehicles still have tinted glasses though tinted glasses are banned. The police commissioner said that such incidences have come to his notice. “A campaign will be held during next week to strictly remove tinted glasses from the vehicles,” he promised.

Dalits leaders requested that locals should be given preference during police department recruitments. The commissioner responding to it said that no applications are being received from local people during police recruitments. “Sufficient publicity will be given during future recruitments,” he said.

“A new building is proposed for Mangaluru rural police station with the cooperation of private parties and a donor has come forward for it. The work will be started within a month. It is aimed to complete the building before December, 2016,”said the police commissioner.

“Police have been conducting uninterrupted operations against ganja and drugs by imposing fines and imprisonment. It is necessary to create awareness in society regarding the ill-effects of drugs. It is intended to hold yearlong campaign against it with the cooperation of groups and associations. Those should come forward on their own and join hands with the police department”, he said.

Dalit leaders P Keshava, Raghuveer, Mukesh, Umesh and Narayana Punchame discussed on various subjects. DCP Shantharaju was present.

A very good move on the part of Our Commissioner Mr. Chandra Shekher to increase the number of CCTV cameras in mangalore by sixty. This will greatly help the traffic department. The present police force is not adequate to control the increase in traffic. Of course the Traffic wardens are playing their role.

Mr Chndra Shelher has given hearing to the dalits and instilled confidence in them. This will go a long way in terms of P.R.
