Udupi, Aug 2: An excise inspector has complained against two bar owners regarding obstruction of duty on Monday, August 1 at Manipal police station.

Rohith Kumar Shetty from Akshaya Bar in Shankaranarayana and Govinda Raj Hegde from Sanjeeva Bar in Uppinakote Brahmavar reportedly threatened excise inspector Chandrashekar Naika when he was busy in office work at KSBCL Manipal depot with excise inspector Jyothi and excise guard Ratnakar on Saturday, July 30 afternoon, the complaint says.

The bar owners allegedly entered the depot all of a sudden and asked who Chandrashekar Naika is and later addressing him asked how dare he is to inspect their bars visiting them again and again asking if the dealers are dealing with illicit liquor.

The bar owners warned him not to come to their bars again and threatened that they will kill him if he comes there again. The bar owners also told the excise inspector that they will get him transferred.

Chandrashekar Naika has been with the excise department for the last 35 years and has conducted several raids on bars based on definite information received from people.

It is leant that the some bar owners were selling their liquor products in nearby petty shops. The excise inspector had put a brake on liquor sales in several places in Kundapur taluk. He had confiscated liquor sold in Kokkarne and in public places during elections. He has registered more than 40 cases on adulterated liquor, liquor smuggling and illicit liquor trade during the last three months.

Chandrashekar has alleged that he is being threatened by bar owners fearing that frequent raids on their bars will be detrimental for their business.
