Bengaluru, Aug 2: Farmers cultivating kumki/bane/betta/haadi/soppinabetta/jumma lands would be granted occupancy rights under the 'Akrama-Sakrama' scheme, Karnataka’s Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa announced in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters, he said an order has been issued to regularise cultivation of 'kumki' lands in proportion to the 'patta' lands owned by farmers.

'Kumki' lands are the land owned by the government located adjacent to patta lands under cultivation.

The farmers having agricultural fields in this vicinity had been given the right to cultivate the government land lying vacant, which were bordering their lands. During the British era, these lands, which were lying vacant and unused, were allowed to be used by land owners for agricultural activities.

'Kumki' land is known with various nomenclatures such as Bane, Betta, Haadi, Soppinabetta, Jumma.

Thimmappa said the Government Order has been issued to regularise cultivation of these lands under the Akrama-Sakrama scheme.

Earlier, there was no provision to regularise such lands which were being cultivated by farmers for the past several years.

The representatives of the Kisan Cell of State Congress called on the Minister and requested him to regularise 'kumki' lands.

The Minister said the tahsildars had been instructed to hold weekly meetings to clear pending applications related to land issues before December end.

This plan is only viable if it is given to the farmers with a condition to cultivate this land and not otherwise

Poor landless farmers like Billava's Catholics and Kuruba's etc,. were terrorized & exploited by Landlords like few Jains, GSB, Vokaliga & Bunts before the Land reform act of Indira Gandhi and Dalits were treated worst then Indian stray dogs No development is grater then Land reform act of Congress and reservation for Dalits in Government & Education. BJP & Hindu outfits want to erase the Grate service of Congress to the poor and marginalized people of India and want to re write History.
