Mangaluru: Undertrials made to work outside jail, with just one guard!

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Aug 4: In what may perhaps be termed as a potential breach of security, about 10-12 undertrial jail inmates were found doing cleaning work near the jail superintendent's house the outside the jail premises here on Thursday August 4.

More shockingly, even though there were over 10 inmates engaged in the work, there was only one person to guard them.

As per the rules prescribed by the Karnataka prisons department, no jail inmate can be allowed or told to work outside the jail premises. In addition to that, even inside the jail premises, only the convicts are made to work and undertrials cannot be compelled.

When questioned, superintendent V Krishnamurthy admitted that he had sent the inmates outside the jail premises and also gave a vague answer that they were engaged in the cleaning work as part of the 'Swacch Bharat Mission'. He then disconnected the call.

Now questions arise - who would have been responsible if even one of the inmates had escaped from the spot as there was a lone policemen guarding them? What if the inmates had been attacked by those with past enmity?

Offenders freely roaming outside and creating havoc each day are more dangerous than these chaps. If these had any influential backup, they wouldn't be jailed. Judgement on petty offenders is quick and the real goons enjoy trial delays which goes for years. Surprisingly, after so many years they comeout clean.

These under trials may be cattle thieves. Even if they run, they will be caught soon and their punishment will be more. So,they won't dare to run. They also need some exercise. Jail may be crowded and they might have voluntarily accepted swatch Bharath work.

These Higher officials in police department use public paid servants to do their house work. What is big about this incident...!!!??? If prisoners run away or get killed by the opponents...what police are going to lose...????? They get their salary in time...they may get some extra money for working extra hours to find these run away prisoners or in investigating the rivalry case.....!!!!????

Everytime we cannot apply rules. Sometimes trust the most. When we mingle with people we can understand them well while doing study on them.
May be we think inside prison..it's tough life betwen jail authorities and prisoners. It's totally wrong. All behave like friends. Bondage develop slowly without knowing how dangerous they are.
