Mangaluru: Two women chain snatchers arrested- gold, cash seized

Mangaluru, Aug 6: Mangaluru South police on Saturday, August 6, arrested two women chain snatchers and seized gold ornaments and cash from them. This was revealed at city police commissioner's office in a press meet. 

Selvi (24) wife of Aiyappan and Arayi (22) daughter of Muthu, both from Metupalyam Tamil Nadu are the persons arrested. Police seized gold ornaments weighting 80 grams valued at Rs 2.4 lac and Rs 1.45 lac cash from them.

The accused women were targeting women at bus stands and roads while they were alone. The women would divert the minds of the victims by talking to them politely and then snatching the chains.

Malathi had lost gold chain weighing 24 grams at Mangaladevi on July 25. Leelavathi at Mangaladevi had lost chain weighing 60 grams and Gunavanthi had lost chain weighing 40 grams at Suttarpete near Valencia on August 1. Parameshwari had lost chain weighing 16 grams at Kankanady bus stand on August 5.

The arrests were made near Roopavani theatre today morning. Circle inspector Belliappa, Sub inspector Mohammed K Sharif and police personnel Vishwanath, Dhananjay Gowda, Satyanarayana, Nutan Kumar, Vishwanath Budavali, Zarina Taj, Anantha Murdeshwar and Shekar Gatti participated in teh operation under guidance from ACP Shruthi.
