Dharwad, Aug 8: Harikrishna Hebsur, a civil servant aspirant, wrote UPSC civil services exams on Sunday, August 7. What makes him special is, he came from the Dharwad central prison to write the exam and went back there after he wrote it. Hebsur was arrested following protests by farmers over the Mahadayi dispute in Navalagunda days back.

Hebsur was lodged in Ballari central jail earlier, but was shifted to Dharwad prison on Friday August 5, just to enable him to write the exam in Dharwad.

Police brought Hebsur to the exam centre at 8.15 am with high security. He appeared for first paper of the exam from 9.30 to 11.30 am. A lunch was served to him at the exam centre with prior arrangement. He wrote the second paper from 2.30 to 4.30 pm.

Soon after the exam was over, Hebsur was taken to Dharwad central prison. He is likely to be shifted back to Bellary on Monday.

Principal district and session judge in Dharwad had directed the shifting of Hebsur from Ballari to Dharwad jail.

Hebsur blamed that since his father Lokanath G Hebsur is the president of the Kalasa-Banduri Horata Samiti, his family has been targeted.

“I was in my room preparing for the civil service exams when a police sub-inspector along with a few constables barged into my house and took me away,” he said adding that the police did not heed his plea that he was innocent and had never participated in the agitation.

“I was beaten up by the police and suffered injuries, but still I took it as a challenge to strive hard and pass the civil service exams so that I can serve the people and farmers,” Hebsur said earlier when he was being shifted from Ballari to Dharwad.
