Kasargod, Aug 9: Policemen from NIleshwar in the district have succeeded in arresting five accused persons relating to an attack on petrol bunk owner, and snatching away from him cash amounting to Rs 3.16 lac apart from scooter. The arrested men include two siblings.

The arrested accused have been identified as Muhammed Shafad Khan (19) from Payyannur Tayaneri, Ubaid (20) from B C Road, Bantwal, Yadukrishnan (28), a resident of Ramantali, his brother, Mithunkrishnan (24), and Mubarak (19) from Ilambachchi. The arrested men have been accused of attacking petrol bunk owner, K Ramakrishnan, on the night of August 1 this year, and forcibly taking away cash and scooter.

The scooter in question and Rs 1,44,330 in cash were recovered from their possession. The accused persons had tried to draw money from ATM centres located at Cheruvathur and Nilehwar by using ATM card found in the bag in which money was kept. Policemen said they could zero in on the persons on the basis of CCTV camera footage of the ATM centres.

It is learnt that Shafad Khan, Ubaid and Mithunkrishnan had directly participated in the robbery, while the others were involved with drawing of robbery plan. The accused, after the robbery, directly went to Mangaluru and lavishly spent money on their needs and had returned to their homes after two days, policemen said.
