Mangaluru: Bondel Church celebrates St Lawrence feast with devotion

Mangaluru, Aug 10: The nine-day novena culminated with the annual grand festive Mass at St Lawrence church, Bondel in city on Wednesday August 10.

The vicar general of Mangaluru diocese, Msgr Dennis Moras Prabhu was the main celebrant while professor of Jeppu seminary Fr Clifford Fernandes delivered the sermon.

"Our creator has gives us everything in abundance which we need to share with others. We must share love among the family members. This will not only strengthen the faith but also inculcates the habit of loving your neighbour," Fr Clifford said.

"We must also give back to our nature as we receive in plenty from it. We must plant saplings and provide food and water to nature's inhabitants. They have nowhere to go and are on the verge of extinction." Fr Clifford added.

Many priests from across the diocese took part in the solemn Eucharistic celebration along with parish priest Fr Andrew D'Souza and assistant parish priest Fr Jaison Monis.

The Novena was held from August 1 till August 9 in preparation of the feast. As part of the novena, everyday two Masses were offered at the shrine at 11 am and 6 pm and food was served after the first Mass to the devotees.

The relic of St Lawrence was on display at the church premises for the devotees whereas the relic of the Holy Cross has been on display inside the church.

Vice president of the pastoral council Henbert Pinto, Secretary Wilfred Alvares and convenor of the arrangements Steven D'Silva and others from arrangement committee and liturgy committee made the arrangements for the festive Mass and other proceedings.
