Mangaluru, Aug 11: The city crime branch (CCB) police led by inspector Sunil Y Nayak has succeeded in arresting an accused in connection to a major robbery that took place in Mumbai last month and has recovered ruby and other valuable stones worth a whopping Rs 5 crore.

A Mumbai-based businessman was kidnapped in July and robbed of a pendent made of a ruby, diamonds and gold. The CCB police have managed to recover the pendent from the accused.

The arrested accused has been identified as K S Yunus (42), a resident of Bikarnakatte here.

The CCB received information that on August 10, another accused named Talat and Yunus would be meeting in an Alto car near an under-construction building in Bikarnakatte with the purpose of selling off the valuable pendent illegally. Based on this information, the CCB police raided the spot and arrested Yunus and took the pendent as well as the Alto car into their possession. Talat however managed to escape.

Yunus, Talat Bajal and their accomplices Likhit Gopal Shetty, Naseer Ahmed Khan of Mumbai, Fakir Mohammed alias Shameer Sheikh, Gautam Anant Kadam, Prateek Alok Moyithi, and Shameer alias Hasan Khan had kidnapped the businessman in Mumbai and robbed him of the ruby pendent. They were planning to sell the ruby in Hassan.

The Mumbai police who took up the case exchanged information with the Mangaluru police in July. The case was registered in Bandra Kurla Complex police station.

In the international market, the ruby seized is approximately worth Rs 5 crore, said the police.

Among the accused, Talat is an accused in several cases.

The seized ruby and diamond-studded gold pendent along with the Alto car and a mobile phone have been handed over to Mangaluru east police.

Ever-increasing/innovative/daring crimes being committed, are the result of our lax, lenient laws, mainly the "bail without jail" system.

Hope we learn from our mistakes and totally do away with the 'Bail" system. Punishment for crimes should be so severe, that most of the criminals/budding criminals will not venture out to do anything, where the reward-risk -ratio is unfavourable.

The pendent which is given here is not Ruby. Ruby cannot be in any other color except Red. It's looks like an Jade stone. Even though it's ruby, this cannot be worth 5 crores because of the size.

That little thing is worth 5 crore??? OMG ... if I had not known that this a real ruby and probably if this was showcased in some artificial jewelry store, I wouldn't have paid more than 250rs for this pendant !! it takes years and years and sometimes even not possible to save 5 crore at the end of you life term and here i see this SMALL pendant's worth price equivalent to a life time savings of a or more than one person ! How is this fair?

Fair price could be around 5 lacs.?
Very well inflated like price of king fisher brand.
Total worth of gold diamond may be less than 1 lac.
So what is the worth of ruby? Carrot value?
