Puttur, Aug 12: Commissioner in the department of public instruction, Sowjanya, through an order issued on August 10, has stayed transfer of four teachers of Haradi school, who were identified as excess. The teachers have been ordered to be retained in the school for the present.

State home minister, Dr G Paramshwar, sent a copy of the order in question by WhatsApp to Prathima Rai, mother of eighth standard student Divit Rai. After Divit sent him a message last month seeking retention of four teachers identified as excess, home minister, G Parameshwar, had sent a message to him promising to meet his request. However, all of a sudden, transfer order was issued to these four teachers this week by the block education officer.

After orders to relieve these four teachers were received by the school on Wednesday, Divit had boycotted the classes, gone home, and sent WhatsApp message to home minister, reminding him of his earlier promise. In turn, the minister messaged him not to lose hope.

On Thursday, school development and monitoring committee meeting was held, where a resolution to retain the teachers was passed and it was decided to forward the same to the government through the block education officer and district director of public instruction. It was also decided to resort to strong protest if the government went ahead with the transfer. Prathima Rai had sent message to education minister, Tanveer Sait, informing the developments, after which she received WhatsApp message on Thursday.

The school authorities hope that the retention will be permanent, taking into account progress shown by the school over the last year in total number of students, admission under right to education act, etc.
