Udupi, Aug 12: The ear stud that had got stuck in the abdomen region of Niranjan Bhat (26), accused in Bhaskar Shetty murder case, has since been removed by the doctors of Manipal Hospital through colonoscopy procedure on the evening of Thursday August 11. As no adverse affects were found, Bhat was shifted to ward.
After Niranjan, who had tried to commit suicide by swallowing a diamond ring and two ear studs worn by him when in Manipal police station, was admitted into the district hospital, the ring and one of the studs had been ejected naturally. As the other stud got stuck and did not come out, he was referred to Manipal Hospital on Wednesday evening.
As other methods to remove the stud failed, the doctors at Manipal Hospital resorted to colonoscopy and removed the stud on Thursday evening. In all likelihood, Niranjan would be discharged from hospital. The police may produce him in the court on Friday itself and seek his police custody.
It is learnt that speaking casually with police and hospital staff when lodged in the hospital, Niranjan confessed that he has been regretting his act, and shedding tears for having let down his parents an close relatives. However, about the murder with which he is linked, he reportedly said he is ignorant of what he did and what happened, perhaps because he was under some spell cast by the concerned.
