Udupi, Aug 14: Through a memorandum, Buntara Sangha has urged Rajya Sabha member, Oscar Fernandes, requesting him to use his good offices and prevail upon the concerned to ensure that the guilty are punished relating to entrepreneur, Bhaskar Shetty's murder case.

"Apparently, efforts to shield the culprits are on in Bhaskar Shetty murder case. Police department is behaving like puppets in the hands of people working from behind the scenes. The police, who are busy providing royal treatment to the accused, have totally neglected the distressed family of Shetty," Bunt community leaders said in the memorandum, urging Oscar to bring pressure on home ministry immediately and make them take legal steps against the guilty.

Office bearers of the district unit of Buntara Sangha here, and also members and dignitaries from the Bunt community, who submitted a written memorandum to Oscar Fernandes at Katapady on Saturday August 13, spoke to the MP and complained that the police personnel are guilty of undue delay in the issue of putting together vital evidences. They also told him that the accused have not been so far subjected to intensive interrogation. "There has been widespread resentment and suspicion among the general public about the attitude of police towards this case. The government should take this case with all the seriousness and ensure that the bereaved family of Shetty gets justice," the memorandum read.

The leaders urged Oscar to take stern steps against the first investigating officer in the case, Girish, and to undertake detailed investigation about the people who conspired to make this murder happen and book them.

Oscar Fernandes, speaking after receiving the memorandum, noted that this is not just a crime in his view. He felt that the very occurrence of such a heinous crime in his hometown has brought shame and disrepute to the town. He said he understands the pain and anguish the family is going through, and promised to personally speak to the home minister, and ask him to take all necessary steps to bring the guilty to book.

President of Udupi Buntara Sangha, Jayakar Shetty Indrali, district president of Bunatara Yane Nadavara Sangha, Dinakar Shetty Kurkal, advocate, Shantaram Shetty, leaders like Manohar Shetty, Padubidri Buntara Sangha president, Navinchandra Setty, Katapadi Buntara Sangha president, Vinay Ballal, Naveen Shetty Padubidri, Subhash Ballal, Ashok Shetty, brother of the deceased, Surendra, and relatives, Chandrashekhar Shetty and Ratnakar Shetty, were present.

Both Oscar Fernandes, and MP, Shobha Karandlaje, visited the house of Bhaskar Shetty's mother at Sarakarigudde, Katapady on Saturday and met his brothers and sisters. They assured the family members of doing everything possible to see that the guilty are not spared in the case. Shobha was accompanied by some BJP leaders and assured them that they are with the aggrieved at this time of crisis.

Oscar noted that prima facie it looks as if the family of the deceased has faced lot of injustice and that the case has not been handled in a proper manner. He said he would urge the home minister to give strict instructions to the police officers to conduct investigation in the right direction. The people at the spot requested Oscar to see that police officer, Girish, who allowed the investigation to go slack, is suspended, replacement of all the members of the investigating team with new ones, and issuance of directions top level polce officers to evince personal interest in the case.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee secretary, M A Gafoor, state BJP scretary, Tingale Vikramarjun Hegde, Shyamala Kunder, BJP district president, Mattar Ratnakar Hegde, general secretary, Suresh Nayak Kuilady, zilla panchayat member, Geetanjali Suvarna, leaders, Navinchandra J Shetty, Vinay Ballal, gram panchayat president, Juliet Veera D'Souza, Udayakumar Shetty, Nayana Ganesh, Veena Shetty, Kurkal Dinakar Shetty, and Subhas Ballal were among those present.

Appeal to arrest Rajeshwari's relatives

Gulabi Shedthi, in her written memorandum handed over to both the MPs, gave names of the brother-in-law of Rajeshwari and another as suspects, claiming that all these people had together killed her son in a planned manner. She alleged Rajeshwari's elder sister's husband, who is also named Bhaskar Shetty, and elder sister's son, Balakrishna Shetty, were involved with this murder.

She pointed out that their roles in the murder can be confirmed if mobile phones of arrested accused are seized and call details are verified. "It is learnt that on July 28, Rajeshwari and Navaneeth had withdrawn huge amount of cash from bank accounts. Police should investigate about this, and find out to whom this cash was disbursed," she requested.

Gulabi also requested them to hand over this investigation to either Corps of Detectives of an efficient police officer for makingsure that the guilty do not go scot free by making use of money power.

It is learnt through sources that Rajeshwari's brother-in-law Bhaskar Shetty was also involved in the slain Bhaskar's business, and had even held power of attorney till the latter found out misappropriation and revoked it.

Balakrishna Shetty, who has already been taken for enquiry by the police, was allegedly paid a huge sum of money through cheque by Rajeshwari soon after the murder, in order to secure bail and for other expenses in the event of her arrest.

Meanwhile, there are also suspicions of a powerful Bengaluru-based swamy who reportedly has close connections with a top minister trying to influence the case.

One thing i am telling whether police giving any royal treatment or not handcuffing the arrested people does not solve the problem. If we involve too many people in this case the ultimate result is zero. It is said that too many cooks spoil the dish. The innocent blood of Bhaskar Shetty want go waste, if one believes in God then we should wait for his judgement. God thinking is different than ours. I have great trust on mother, her cry to God will not go unanswered. At this critical moment we should not show our anger and give upper hand to opponents and allow them to make the case still weak

A very sad state of affairs indeed. It shows the weakness/helplessness of our State Government's Home Ministry, in exercising effective control over its Police Dept.

In spite of all the efforts by all the angles, police department and involvement of MPs, MLAs, Bunt Sangha's stalwarts, nothing concrete has been established yet in this particular case.
It is still a mystery whether it is a drama played by the police department to fool the public as some of their personnel’s involvement is clearly proved or anything other agenda involved? The kind of sluggishness in the investigation from the police department clearly shows that Mrs.Rajeshwari and her son Navaneeth are very smarter than the police department. They look like as if they didn’t commit murder, they are very free, no tension, no sympathy, no tears, no regret. Police personnel don’t have the courtesy to hand cuff them. Over all drama is just to drag the case and fool the public.
Agony, pain of the poor mother Gulabi Shetty cannot be understood by anyone.Because she is the mother of deceased Bhaskar Shetty, She only can understand the pain, how she is undergoing.
Not only she, even all the public especially Bunts community people are behind Gulabi Shetty-mother of slain Bhasker Shetty seeking justice to be obtained to the bereaved family members at the earliest possible. Justice-Justice-Justice is the only need of the hour now and accused Rajeshwari and her son Navaneeth should be dealt severely. Stringent punishment should be awarded not only to the culprits and all the people involved in this murder case of Bhaskar shetty.Let the truth come first. Police department should take bold steps and act efficiently to unveil the truth. The people involved in this heinous crime should not be spared at any cost. They all should be hanged or beheaded in front of the public. No such incident recur in the future.

If there is involvement of underworld elements, justice will never be given to victims,
even if they are elected representatives. Such powers will fear only their rivals.
We can recollect many high profile murders. Systematically witnesses been eliminated.
    Truth did not prevail.
In rogue countries, this is order of the day!

just 8 months ago i spoke to a police inspector (in udupi district) regarding a false case, either to submit charge sheet or submit b form and he was harassing the accused (in fact victims) by asking 1,50,000. I called Madam, Sumana (dysp karkala) and she promised stern action, nothing happened. So i emailed about the matter to the then SP annamalai, no reply. I called him nearly 20 times no answer, one fine day he answered the call and while i was talking for more than 2 to 3 minutes he simply disconnected the call by asking to talk to the police inspector. That day itself i realized there was big drama going on behind the seen and the officer who asked money was safe.

by my past experience what i feel is no body can do anything to Mr. Girish as he has internal support, so strong, that they are defended by their bosses, for they know the weakness of their bosses. Now a days justice can only be purchased at retail or wholesale.

There are so many ways for the Police to collect materials for investigations like telephone call lists, phone locations at the time of crime, transfer or withdrawal of large funds from the banks , CCTV footage in the surroundings during that period if available etc etc. In this case the culprits have admitted the crime but looks like hiding certain important evidences like remains of the body etc deliberately just to make the case weaker, but the Police if they are really committed to solve the case can use third degree to get to the truth as they use it commonly with other convicts!

Mothers fight for justice should not go in vain. The police officers who initially botched up investigations should be punished instead of merely transfer. The police officer like these are responsible for increase in crimes.Such a big deceit should not go unpunished.

Notwithstanding so much pressure from the influential Bunt community, if, the police are turning a nelson's eye to this murder episode, what will be the fate of a poor man who goes to the police for redressal of his grievances? Is there any justice left in this country? We will be celebrating our 70th Independence Day tomorrow. As long as we are not free from the clutches of corruption, nepotism and all the wrongs that people in authority indulge in, what is the use of such independence? Does this word have any meaning? It sounds hollow to me.

This shows how people with no money power or supporters have no way to get help from police.Court takes decades to solve every case. All funds from Black money in land deals from Udupi manipal Brahmavar. Buy in crores and paper work in thousands. few bucks in police , lawyer pockets and case will postpone as judge sick. Elderly people are big time victims.

What will leaders from Congress party do, as it one of their leader who was the main source of funding to the party has been sidelined after being named as a culprit in suicide case. If some funding arrangements are promised or has already been arranged, by the accused to be given to Congress party or its leaders, no incentive will be taken by any of the leaders to persue the case further on a serious note. To please the public statements will be issued stating that all efforts will be made to punish the culprit.
