Mangaluru, Aug 14: UAE-based Bearys Cultural Forum (BCF) on Sunday August 14 awarded scholarships to deserving students as well as wheel-chairs to physically challenged persons and sewing machines to economically backward women from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, in a programme organized at Loyola Hall here.
MLA Mohiuddin Bava inaugurated the programme.
In his address, Bava said, "From past 15 years Bearys Cultural Forum has been doing this tremendous job of distributing scholarships to bring young talents forward in education. There is a lot of difference in the field of education within the community. Today even girls from the community are acquiring education on par with girls from other communities. This is really a good initiative by the BCF to bring the community forward through education."
He also urged the BCF to take up initiative to build at least five houses for homeless people in the coming days.
Delivering the keynote address B M Farooq, chairman of Fiza Group of Companies, Bengaluru, said, "Today, the Beary community has gained recognition in education and socio-economic fields. It is because of the dedicated work of BCF and other associations which have immensely worked in the field of education. Bearys Welfare Association also emerged to foster and promote education to the community. The association is receiving a huge number of applications for scholarships, out of which 75% of the applications are from girls. India is developing into the third major force in the world in terms of economy. Education and entrepreneurship will help India flourish."
He also asked the youth to work hard with dedication and choose the right profession, particularly civil service.
On this occasion, Zakaria Jokatte, chief of Al Muzain company, Jubail, Saudi Arabia was honoured with the 'Star of Bearys 2016' and 9 students who did exceptionally well in SSLC and PUC exams this year and one sports achiever were presented the BCF Awards.

Earlier in the day, BCF also organized a career guidance programme for which Kaup Mohammed, dean of UAE London American City College, was the resource person. The symposium was inaugurated by Qazi of Udupi Ibrahim Musliyar and Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo.
