Udupi, Aug 15: Following allegations of providing 'VIP treatment' to the accused in the sensational Bhaskar murder case and botching up initial stages of the probe, a departmental inquiry has been ordered against Manipal cicle inspector S V Girish.
The inquiry was ordered by Udupi SP K T Balakrishna based on complaint submitted to ASP Vishnuwardhan by Bhaskar Shetty's mother Gulabi and the Buntara Sangha.
It is alleged that after producing the accused Navaneeth and his mother Rajeshwari in the court, Girish had allowed Navaneeth to take the front passsenger seat of the police vehicle, thus violating norms. A video of this episode was passed on to district in-charge Pramod Madhwaraj, who said he had forwarded the same to the IGP (western range) for action.
It is also alleged that when Gulabi Shedthi first approached the Manipal police to register a case of kidnap after Bhaskar went missing, Girish asked her to file only a missing complaint and allegedly also made her wait for long before finally filing an FIR on the instructions of ASP Vishnuwardhan.
Girish was removed as the investigation officer in the case and it was handed over to ASP of Karkala Sumana.
