Kundapur, Aug 17: “Morality and patriotism should grow above politics in every Indian if the independence of India be made immortal. Loving the country, honouring the country’s flag and protecting the unity should be our duty,” said Chikkamagluru MP Shobha Karandlaje.

She was speaking in the concluding ceremony of the Tricolor flag rally held near Kundapur Shastri circle on Tuesday August 16.

“Incidents that support treason are happening these days. We have complained to the centre regarding anti India slogans and insulting talk against national flag heard during a programme in Bengaluru's international voluntary organization. The people who spoil nationalism should be identified immediately and punished for treason. Such incidents should not be repeated,” she urged.

“Children should be taught about our country. Some text books have nothing written about the freedom struggle and sacrifices. Only about Gandhi has been written in some books. Freedom was possible by the collective efforts and sacrifices of several freedom fighters. The truth should be made known to the children,” she said.

“India is not as shown in the map. Terror activities are rooted in Pakistan occupied Kashmir. Pakistan is encouraging terrorism. The centre is bound to control terrorism. The government has come forward to respond to needs of the soldiers guarding difficult places such as Siachin eating scarce food disregarding their lives by handing over another Rs one lac crore to the soldiers,” she said.

“The dream of Mahatma Gandhi that real freedom is when a girl can walk about at midnight freely is yet to be a reality. A girl cannot go about even during the day in some cities. It is necessary to make changes in our legal system. The work of strengthening the country should be devoid of religion, politics or caste,” she said.

BJP district president Rathnakar Shetty addressing the programme said that the concluding programme of Tricolor rally will be held in Hemmadi on August 20. “A large bike rally will be held from Shiroor that day. More than five thousand party activists are expected to participate in it,” he said.

BJP state executive committee's Thingale Vikramarjuna Hegde, Shamala Kunder, Udayakumar Shetty, Kiran Kumar Kodgi, backward class Morcha district president Rajesh Kaveri, Baikadi Suprasad Shetty, Kuthyaru Navin Shetty, Yuva morcha president Shreesha Nayak, Geethanjali Suvarna, Nayana Ganesha, Prakash Mendon, Ganapathi Sriyan and others were present.

Kundapur Mandal president Suresh Shetty Kadooru welcomed and gave a key note address. Yuva morcha president Sathish Poojary Hejmady proposed vote of thanks. Secretary Bhaskar Billava compered the programme.

The MP later inspected the proposed site for bridge at Basruru Moorukai. She held discussions with former MLA B Appanna Hegde. The flag rally was set in motion at Haladi. The bike rally had arrived via Haladi, Bidkalkatte, Thekkatte and Koteshwar road.

Thousands of people participated in the rally.
