Kundapur, Aug 18: Devotees of Saukoor Goddess Durgaparameshwari temple, one of the famous pilgrimage centres in the district, expressed resentment at the fact that the theft which occurred in the temple about a year back has remained unresolved. The devotees handed over a memorandum to deputy superintendent of police (DySP) here, Praven Nayak, expressing disappointment at the failure of the department, and demanding the officials to evince added interest in the case, crack the case, and nab the culprits.

Palli Kishen Hegde, who handed over the memorandum to the DySP on behalf of the temple devotees, said that the devotees strongly feel that the police department did not work diligently in finding out the culprits, and that they feel the commitment of the department is questionable. "Devotees wonder why has the department failed to arrest the thieves, although the culprits were visible in the CCTV camera footage," he said.

Praveen Nayak promised to conduct investigation in the case from another angle and to give thrust to the investigation.

The devotees, who had gathered at the temple premises on Wednesday, had said that if the functioning style of the police department does not change, and if it fails to crack the case, it will be treated as failure of the department and that protest programme would be chalked out to fight till justice is done.
