Udupi, Aug 19: "After Praveen Poojary was intercepted when he was taking some calves by his pick-up truck, his killers did not listen even when he requested them to relent, and gave to them his full identity. They overlooked his plea that he was about to die, and sought water to drink," said Prasad Poojary, member of Sanoor gram panchayat, who happens to be the husband of Prameela, Praveen Poojary's younger sister.
Prasad Poojary was giving account of horrendous death of his brother-in-law at the hands of miscreants to media persons at a press conference held at Brahmavar on Wednesday August 18. The attackers were said to be activists of some Hindu outfits.
He stated that Praveen Poojary, a soft spoken altruist gentleman, was very popular locally. He was the pillar of strength of his family that lives in utter poverty. Praveeen's parents are finding it hard even to get a square meal a day, he informed.
"As the attackers hit Praveen with their feet, hands, iron rods, wooden cudgels etc Praveen suffered serious injuries to his back, hands, legs, and abdomen regions. Even after he reached this piteous state, instead of admitting him into hospital, they abandoned him at Kenjur, an act that cannot by any standard be termed as human," Prasad explained.
Praveen Poojary
Praveen was a local BJP leader, president of the party's Kenjur standing committee, and was known to be a good person. People from his village have strongly condemned the cold-blooded murder.
As per information, Praveen, who was living in abject poverty, had expressed the desire to marry only after finding financial stability. His family members had started to look for girls for him. Recently he had given his nod for a girl from Karkala who was chosen by his family, and talks of engagement were under way.
On Thursday, western range inspector general of police, Mangaluru, Arun Chakravarty, visited Brahmavar and conducted inspection. He also visited the police station there and collected information from the personnel there. He also met injured Akshay who is in the hospital, and gathered details from him.
